My Dutch Wonderland review (long)...and some pics to go along
Just spent 5 days in the DW area and we had a blast
We went a Thurs-Mon and stayed at the Best Western Eden (2 bedroom suite)...Very, very nice place....
Looking back in hind-sight, we really only spent a few hours at the resorts outdoor pool and sprinkler area, so although my kids LOVED it there, for the busy type of trip we had, it was not really "completely" necessary....There is SO much to do in the area and we didn't even do everything Heres some resort pics of the new pool area....
First day we left the house at 9am and didnt arrive until 4pm at Dutch Wonderland because of major traffic ....But we covered a TON of the park in 4 hours ! And we knew we were spending 2 days there so it was fine ! The 2nd day we went to DW, it rained for a bit during the day so the water part (Dukes Lagoon) was clsed so we didnt get to do that...but after the rain stopped the park emptied out and there were no lines ! We were there from 12pm-7pm
Best part: On the way out they actually were GIVING out rain passes because some attractions were down! We didnt even have to ask they were just giving them out !...So now we get to go back for another day in 2011 !! I though that was EXCELLENT customer service ! What a great park for kids their age ! My 2.5 year old could go on all but 3 rides ! And some of the rides were kind of thrilling for her and she loved them.... Warning if you go.....LOL....The ride "Turtlle Whirl" was fun but whoa....Not for the weak stomach people!
Heres some pics ...
My kids loved The Whip
One scary thing did happen there... There is a ride called "the Wonder House" that from the outside appears to spin around (the seats inside do not- its a virtual reality type thing)...Anyhow, DH and kids got off the ride and there was a lady coming off behind them....All of a sudden the ride started to MOVE and the woman got her leg trapped ...The operator didnt lock the house so DH and a bunch of men had to grab the "Wonder House" and hold it upright to untrap the woman...She got hurt, not sure to what extent because after they got her out we moved on...If that had been a child I hate to think of what would have happened....So, I will now avoid that ride in the future....
Next day we went to Cherry Crest Farms....LOVED LOVED LOVED it there...So much fun stuff for the kids to do...DS loved the baby chicks they could hold.....Awesome bouncy mattress thingy...We didnt do the corn maze, but will next time....A must do!
We also bought a train ticket to ride the Strasburg RR from there....IMO, once you got off the train there wanst a heck of a lot to do there so in the future we will skip that part..There are 2 "rides" there (one of which DW had) and another which was akin to the Santa train at the mall...We didnt do the RR museum because to me it was pricey (and my kids arent THAT into trains)....10 minute ride there, 35 minutes back...
Kids loved these slides but going up and down the hill was tiring
And the train....
The next day it rained so we hit the Hands on House Childrens Museum ( reminded me a bit of The LICM meets Once Upon a Treetop..LOL)...We had the pleasure of running into a fellow LIF'er there ( Hi Dawn!) Kids really liked it there and it was a nice rainy day activity...
You could paint your own faces !!! (Even I got in on the action )
They had all kinds of cute stuff to do including a machine shop, grocery store etc....
From there we headed over to the National Christmas Center.....Nice little walk thru museum that had Christmas nostalgia , memorobilia etc...Kids enjoyed it and we ran into our fellow LIF'er again (Hi again Dawn )
Even Jesse liked it !
As far as food, aside from the regular ole' restaurants we ate at Millers Smorgasborg...O.M.G...phenomenal...its right on the main road that DW is on....Awesome food....
On our last day we hit Kitchen Kettle Village on the way home.....Really cute, kids rode a pony, and we sampled some pretty awesome stuff while there...
DD loved this gingerbread man guy and followed the poor thing around the village constantly
For $1.00 they even got to decorate their oiwn gingerbread cookies
And because my meatball turned 21 weeks while there, his infamous paperplate picture....
If anyone has any questions while the info is fresh in my mind, feel free to ask

Also the train room at the Christmas Museum....If your kids are into trains it is really really neat

I can't believe how big your DS looks in the Hands On museum pics! Especially the one where his face is painted- he looks so much older!
