My Fun Filled Friday Night in the ER (a short story by davenjess)
sorry i've been mia..i got really, really sick Friday night - around 5:00'ish and had MAJOR issues. I had a stabbing pain in my stomach and i was going number 2 - NON STOP and it was pure water. Then around 7:00 - the puking started - wretching, horrible pain... Dave called my close friend Kelly (i asked him too - she is a nurse). She asked how long i had been having issues and when i told her (by this point - it was 8:00) and she asked me to go to the ER because i had to be starting to get dehydrated and dehydrated & pregnant is a no no....so off we went.
we were there until 6:00 Saturday morning. (got there at 8:45).
they don't know what was wrong with me - they did an ultrasound to make sure the baby was fine and EJ is doing VERY well - in fact was moving so much - she had issues measuring... She told me that the baby is measuring 16 weeks today - not 15 weeks 2 days...but she said to let the OB know that and see what they say. She tried to see the sex (she really tried for a good 5 minutes - she even got right in the middle of the legs and couldn't tell)..she showed us the blood flow and measured the head, the placenta, the thigh bone, etc...
after that - i felt better mentally - but i was still wretching & insane naseaus (nothing left in my stomach to vomit up) - so they gave me zofran. I continued to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes or so (sometimes, most times more than every 10 minutes, by the time i'd get back to my room from the bathroom -i'd have to turn around and go back - that's how bad it was)...it was TERRIBLE. They wouldn't let me drink anything - but i took in two bags of fluid...and that's what i think caused me to keep going. They gave me a painkiller for the stabbing pain but it just made me feel 'drugged' - it didn't help the pain... The doc thinks that maybe the puking was what caused the pain - because at times it was VERY Violent...with the bathroom door shut - you could hear me...it was bad.
Eventually - the bad pain passed and they let us go at 6:00 am....they think it was gastroenteritis....and gave me zofran for me to take home. That has helped kill the naseau and i haven't vomited since. I didn't sleep well at home - because i'd go to the bathroom and by the time i went to get back in bed - my stomach would make a HUGE gurgle and i'd go back....
Yesterday - I left the bedroom once to use the computer and email my family (as the bedroom is right across from the bathroom)....but after i write the email to them, I went back to bed. I was drinking gatorade and ate about 6 crackers...they stayed down. Dave picked me up some bananas and more gatorade and that stayed down too (1 banana). That was great, and by midnight - my stomach was grumbling from hunger...so i made some rice - BIG MISTAKE...i went until the rice was all gone...it was bad.
This morning - i'm still going - but the worst part is DAVE has it now...he hasn't thrown up - but he woke up early this morning and used the bathroom for about 20 minutes (VERY UNLIKE HIM)...
He had a banana, i gave him some zofran as to not to puke and he had some gatorade. He took a shower and went to work...he said he'll likely leave early...he's not feeling like himself...he said he's dizzy and just 'off'. I'm hoping it affects him differently than me - since ya know - he's not pregnant...
so that's why i haven't been around....

I hope you feel better soon.
Your story reminded me of when I was pg with DS. I had the stomach virus for 4 straight days! Thankfully, didn't have to go to the ER, but, it felt like I pulled muscles in my stomach from coughing and constantly being sick.
Im so sorry you went through this and so happy to hear EJ is doing well.

OH MY GOD - my entire back is KILLING ME..i pulled every single muscle between the vomiting and non stop going to the bathroom...

OMG Jess I'm so sorry you and DH are going through this!! So happy to hear that EJ is doing well though. Stinks that they couldn't tell the sex just yet.

there's a really bad stomach virus going around - dh had it, his whole office had it, and a lot of the staff and students in my school. luckily i managed not to get it, but dh had the same symptoms that you did. it lasted about 2 days full force then he still felt "off" for about a week but was able to keep small bland meals down and that didn't make him feel too sick.
hope you feel better, but hopefully it's run its course.

oh no! I am glad you are feeling a bit better. just rest up and take care of yourself..and DH of course. My DH and I both had a mild form of this this week. It was horrible but I was not anywhere near as bad as you were.

Ugh, hope you're feeling better. I had food poisoning at 36 weeks preggo with my DD....ended up in a similar situation to you, only I was having contractions from the dehydration. Please take care of yourself!!

ahhhhhhhhh!! 
my goodness jess! i'm so glad you went to the ER!! i have no advice, obviously i'm not qualified to give any, but i did come down with a bug after i consumed some shrimp a few weeks ago that had me in the bathroom for a day straight...ugh i felt AWFUL! my obgyn told me to stick to clear liquids for 24 hrs...this time when you get better and start to feel hungry, try some fresh chicken soup or anything that resembles clear liquids...BIG for you and dave....and can i just say i LOL'd at dave taking zofran? i think he's the first DH to do that...at least on these boards... okay i'll stop laughing now.

omg sweetie sounds like you've had a horrible few days.
Hope you start feeling better (and Dave too). The Zofran works miracles, but it also seems to plug you up (in my experience), but it sounds like that might be a good thing.
Glad to hear EJ is okay though!
