My issues with the DVR world we live in... - After discussion, now includes AI Spoiler!
OK, so I don't have a DVR. (I know it's hard to believe!)
I just haven't seen the need for it in my life. And I am totally fine with the fact that most of the people around me have and use DVR's.
BUT.....
Why should I have to change the things I want to talk about or have to watch what I say because YOU choose to not watch a show when it is originally airing???
It just annoys me that people try to make me feel bad because I talk about the American Idol results show.. THE DAY AFTER IT HAPPENS... and someone gets upset because they DVR'd it and was waiting to watch it.
So it is my opinion (feel free to disagree) that if you CHOOSE to live in the DVR world that you need to accept the certain possibility that someone is going to spoil the surprise of a sporting event, a results show, or the overall concept of something on TV. I will not bite my tongue or walk on eggshells for fear of ruining your moment. If it were that important to you, you should have watched it when it was originally on and made sure to lock yourself in your house without talking to anyone until you got caught up!
If it has already aired on public television, I say it's fair game to discuss!!!!
Carry on!

I agree with you. Mostly because I don't care that much about a tv show knowing who was voted off or who won won't ruin my life.
The only time I got really mad was during the election. I was busy election night and wanted to watch the results show the next day but everyone kept telling me Obama won .

Fair enough! But here's a question for you. Do you get mad at someone if they talk about it before you get to see it? Do you make them feel bad for spoiling the surprise?
I guess my issue is with people who try and make you feel guilty for talking about something that already happened. I can't keep track of who uses a DVR or not? KWIM?

Unless you didn't leave the house or answer your phone, did you really expect that you wouldn't hear it from someone???

and
I can't imagine being addicted to so many shows that I had to record some.
I have two addictions..The Tudors and Robin Hood (BBC). however, I am SOOO addicted to them, that NOTHING stops me from being in front of the tele at the proper airing time.

Re: My issues with the DVR world we live in...
I'm with you.
I had several people on facebook blame me for "ruining the surprise" about the AI results last night because I posted that Megan was gone.
When I DVR something and watch it later I make sure to stay away from Facebook, the internet, the entertainment board here, etc.
If you don't have enough sense to do that, watch it live or don't complain!!
But I do still appreciate when people put "spoiler" in their title so I can choose not to open.

Re: My issues with the DVR world we live in...
If someone asks not to be told the outcome of something, maybe I'm wrong but I think it's common courtesy to respect that.
There's always a chance, someone will blow it or the outcome will be in the news, but that's a chance you'd take. It's that person's perogative to avoid all media & live in a bubble till they watch.
My DH taped a football game because we were going out to dinner. He told the other couple he didnt' want to know the score of the game. We ate dinner. As we were leaving, the husband leaned over to DH & said "By the way, the Jets lost by....." I thought (and still think) he was a complete azzhole.

HAH!!!!!!!! All I can add is "OMG!!!" who gets 'upset' at that????? And um, when the conversation includes the words "american" and "idol" isn't that his/her cue to say 'wait! I want to watch it on dvr so i'll walk away for a minute'???? Or cover their ears and say "i'm not listening i'm not listening lalalalalaalalla"??? Jeez Louise what people worry about never ceases to amaze me. I hope that person lives under a REALLY big rock 'cause you can't AVOID know Megan got voted off last night WHOOOOOOOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, that is just not cool. I do agree that if someone specifically asks you not to say anything, that it is respecful not to. What that guy did to your DH was just downright mean.

same here on both counts.
For me DVR is the only way I can see the shows I want to see. It's hard to watch TV with a 19 mo old running around, plus I don't want the TV on while DD is awake. At night DH and I watch TV together so if there is a show only I enjoy I just DVR it and watch it next day.
