my mom called me a bad mother! UPDATE...
UPDATE:
so even though i know my mom was wrong i still feel bad. turns out DS has an ear infection in one ear and a slight fever (100.6).
he was acting FINE during the day which is why i thought it was teething - he's always miserable at night when he teeths. we started him on augmentin already and he seems to be in great spirits still.
i never usually doubt my mommy instincts, but this time i'm sad, because it's been going on for a few days and i didn't immediately think "ear infection" knowing that he started daycare 3.5 weeks ago and was bound to get sick soon. 
thanks for all the laughs  and Cranky, thanks, i've had this issue with her criticizing me before (and i know i'm a bad poster for not taking everyone's advice yet!) but when it comes to my mom, for some reason, i'm a total chicken. i'm not like that with anyone!

and she was only 1/2 joking....
i told her that i made an appointment with the ped for ths afternoon - since about Sunday, DS has been waking up hysterically crying 4-5 times a night. at first we thought it was teething because he's got a runny nose and he's been drooling like a maniac.
so i gave him motrin and we tried to ride it out - teething usually lasts 2-3 days for him if it's bad.
well he's still crying 4 (5?) days later so i called the ped. i think it could be his ears b/c other than a stuff nose, he's fine during the day - he's eating, he has no fever, nothing. my mom thinks i waited too long. 
i know i'm not a bad mom but of course now i'm second-guessing myself...

Nope...I would go to the Ped. I rather be safe then sorry. My children don't complain about ear infections until they are in extreme pain so you never know.

Oh my gosh....i would never say that to Michelle. We all have to learn things on our own.
I'm sorry she made you feel bad and please don't 2nd guess yourself...I'm SURE she did the same thing at some point when you were little.

You're not a bad mom. He had the same symptoms that he had with teething. How were you supposed to know?? And it could STILL be teething and there may be nothing you can do.
Don't feel bad.

LB- welcome to motherhood... you'll ALWAYS be second guessing yourself I'm sure your mom made some 'ooops' along the way... we all do.

My first thought was "takes one to know one".
I don't think waiting it out is a horrible thing. If it was teething, you just wasted a co-pay.
My mom always took me on day one of being sick - they'd say nothing was wrong. 2-3 days later I was back w/a double ear infection. Eventually she started waiting it out.
At least you made the appointment. I've taken DS to doc at least 2 times for a well visit to find out he had double ear infection. He doesn't run a fever and it doesn't seem to bother him.

ETA: I feel like I am ALWAYS second guessing our decisions about DD when she is sick. We do the best we can, right?

Listen to this story: When I was younger, we went to a friends house for the weekend. I kept complaining I was cold and my mom said, "Oh she just likes to complain" etc. That night I ended up having a really high fever and being sick...and my mom is a pediatrician!

He had no fever! I don't think it was bad waiting. It's like he had a 103 fever for 5 days and you did not see a PED. Then I would have thought you might have needed to go earlier.
But no fever, still eating, same demeanor, no I would have waited also.

You know, I always thought this comment was more appropriate for the parenting board than for NFR. Parenting is where all the moms hang out.
Head-sorry your thread took such a turn. I hope it is clear by now that you are NOT a bad mother. Maybe she meant badass mother?

From what i know, ear infections usually come along with a fever. You're not a mind reader! Since he's acting fine otherwise... don't even give it a 2nd thought.

Your mom seems a little hard on you. You shouldn't let her get to you. Grandmas tend to be over the top on a lot of things in my experience.
