I live in a basement apartment too and this is a new experience for me since I lived in a town house up until a few months ago. I went outside a few minutes ago and saw that the water is almost up to my front door! There is a drain, but it appears that the water is not going down at all!! And it's supposed to rain more later.

The landlord isn't home yet, but as soon as he gets home, I'm going to let him know. I don't that there is anything he can do though. I have ceramic tiles throughout so I don't have to worry about carpet getting wet, just rugs and everything else that is touching the floor!! Ugh, I'm really concerned now Chat Icon Maybe I should start moving everything from under the beds, etc.

This is the first time it happened to us too.
We only have carpet in the front hall and in the bedrooms. Thank God the water didn't make it any further than the front hall.

If its going to rain later I would start getting things off the floor and out from under the beds just to be safe.

I had a few boxes in the front hall that are soaked now.

Dh said the landlord is going to call someone to come and clean up the mess and get the water out of the carpets. I hope he does it soon because I know this carpet is going to start to stink from the rain water.Chat Icon

Re: My mother's basement is completely flooded

My mothers house in Whitestone got flooded also...but they have a history of that.
When I lived in a basement apt. in Whitestone it flooded also...what a nightmare that was. WE had to cut out the wet carpet in small pieces and carry it out and our landlords were useless.
My parents have finally invested in a wetvac but my mother said some of the stuff she had on the floor was ruined.
Hope everyone is okay...
