My OBGYN is leaving- WWYD??
So I received a letter yesterday, that my High Risk OBGYN is being promoted the end of Sept to Chairman of another Hospital. He will no longer be practicing and delivering babies. They have a new replacement that will fill in for him on Sept 30th.
I am due Due 21, so now I either have to work with his replacement or find a new high risk obgyn all together. There are 4 other obgyn who have been in the same practice ( but they arent taking new patients). However, whoever is on call that day will deliver me so it will be one out of the 6 Dr's in the group.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Hope when you meet the new Dr in Sept you like him, and then stay there?
OR
Do I start serching for a new High Risk OBGYN ALL TOGETHER AT ALMOST 20 wks? Who the heck with take me??

Re: My OBGYN is leaving- WWYD??
that stinks Rachel Im sorry. Id be really upset. Especially since you just started with this OB during this pregnancy and he knows all about your treatment.
I personally, would meet the replacement. Im sure whoever it is will be just as good as any other Dr in the practice. I think that would be a lot less stressful then trying to find a brand new high risk and then having to go through your whole history with them. Plus, isnt the office close to your home? No point in making things harder for yourself. Especially traveling once you get bigger and we are heading into winter.

I think I am gonna have to use his replacement. They are the only group right in the hospital and a few blocks from my apartment. I just called the office and basically they said the other Dr's cannot take on his patients and I will have to use his replacement. THAT S*cks!
Now I will have to make sure this new Dr understands my case and clotting disorders.

I would find out if you could meet this new doctor- like just an appointment to sit in his office for a few minutes so you can see if you're comfortable with him- or go for one appointment at his office if they let you (especially under these circumstances, I think they should do that as a courtesy)

Oh boy that sucks...
I personally would meet the replacement. Either way you are switching doctors so you might as well give the new guy/girl a try. Especially since anyone in the practice could deliver your baby, and not necessarily that doctor.

That's what I was hoping, is to meet him first. I have a feeling he prob wont even be in the office though until mid Sept, right before the transition.
Oh well! Guess I just have to hope he is good.

I'm confused- where is he currently practicing then? Also, have you tried looking him up?

Re: My OBGYN is leaving- WWYD??
That stinks, sorry! I would stay with the practice that you are comfortable with. I rarely see my OB and am scheduled for a c-section with one of the other docs in the practice. However, if you meet the replacement and really dislike him/her, then maybe you can rethink the decision. But, for now, I think it would be more stressful to look for a new practice.

I agree with Lisa...I would give the replacement a shot. I'm sure your old doctor will do a great job of transitioning is patients, so I wouldn't stress about him knowing your case...I'm sure between your old doctor and you he will be filled in.
