WWYD? leaving 2 month old for 3 days with mom

This is probably the 3rd time I'm asking this. The first time I asked I had just found I was prego, the second was when I was very prego, and now with DS at one month I thought I would know the answer to this, but I'm not sure if I'll be doing the right thing.

So DH and I had this trip in mind for a while, its a all expense paid (by his job) weekend, we were hoping to go on it, even before I got pregnant.

DS is now a month old. I'm breastfeeding, but supplementing with formula, when I leave DS with Mom I usually give enough breastmilk for the day time feedings. Up until last week he STTN on formula, now he needs to eat every 3 hours. My mom loves when she gets to watch him, so there is no issue there.

He will be a few days shy from 2 months old when we go on the trip for 3 nights. I plan on bringing my pump to keep up supply. I will probably have to dump as there is no place to store it and we are flying.

So it all seems doable, but I feel like such a bad mommy.

It sounds like you have it all figured out if he's ok with formula then missing 3 days of breastmilk won't have a tremendous impact. I would suggest you try to pump as much as you can before the trip and have your mom ration the supply you give her over the 3 days and plug the formula in to fill the gaps. I would tell you to try not to feel guilty but I know if I was in your shoes I'd feel the same way although I will tell you to ENJOY yourself! Just think a few years from now would it really have mattered if you left him for 3 days? At this age he has no clue and I'm sure he'll enjoy a good spoiling from Grandma.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ask the hotel for a mini fridge and bring ice packs for the actual flight. You should be fine with it staying cold enough. Or, if you have enough "reserves" or he is also taking formula (as you said he is), you can pump and dump.

DO NOT feel like a bad mommy at all!!! You need to recharge your batteries too !! Happy mommy generally also means happy baby Chat Icon

Don't feel bad - you're doing a great job! If you're planning to keep up supply and then return to BFing later - that's awesome - I give you a lot of credit as someone who has had problems! Go and have fun!

Yep-most hotels will provide you a mini fridge for storage for free. (Just don't be like me and leave 200 ounces in it when you leaveChat Icon ) Then have a sogft coller bag you can carry on. This is teh best time to leave him-he will have NO IDEA. Have fun!!!

BM can stay out4-6 hrs (and I have def pushed that further at times) and still be good...so if ice packed..even longer til you get checked it...dont feel you have to pump and dump and waste all that liquid gold! lol

good luck have fun!

i would go - in fact, i did. at 6 weeks, i left DD with mil for 3 days and 2 nights to be in my bf's wedding in atlanta. as hard as it was, i knew i would regret not going and in the end, it's only a few days and a nice break for mommy too. good luck!

I am in the same exact situation as you, and I can only imagine how hard it is! SIL is getting married in Mexico 2 months after my due date and I told DH I won't commit until after the baby is born.

I was hoping to have a clearer head in deciding, but it seems like it won't be any easier. Chat Icon

Go and enjoy! You deserve it and can pump there.
