My parents Jack russell just bit my Daughter-UPDATE 6/5 back from doc
OMG, i couldn't believe it. The dog and DD were at my feet. NExt thing i know the dog nipped her, bit her lip and chin. She has 2 puncture wounds, and is keeps telling me that cleo bit her.
I'm heartbroken for 2 reasons, this jack russell has been with us for 10 years, she was my 1st baby. I had to give her to my parents cause i couldn't handle her and 2 babies. She's never growled or nipped anyone. I can't believe she did this..
2nd-I should have protected my baby, cleo hasn't been a happy camper since we moved in with my dad last week, i should have protected her better. Worst mom award goes to me today.
Dh is coming home and my dad and DH are taking the dog away.
UPDATE 6/5/08
We just got back from doc and our closing. G is healing up nicely. The doc said that mouth wounds heal pretty quickly and that our mouth has alot of germs too. She gave us a prescrip for an oral antibiotic just in case it swells up or starts to look infected since we now live 40 mins from the PED so we dont' have to come back.
Gianna tells anyone who asks her how she is..cleo bit her. An animal control officer came at 8am this am, law in ct all dog bites get filed to the state, and she told him too when he asked how she was.
She's been asking for cleo, but she's quickly distracted.
But me and my mom, well, i didn't sleep at all last night, i just feel an overwhelming sadness for the loss of my dog, but i had to do it. I couldn't trust that dog for 1 millisecond around my girls and there's no way i could crate her all day, that's not fair to her or anyone.
THe sadness will pass i know, gianna's wounds will heal, and cleo will always have a special place in my heart.
I just can't believe she bit someone. She's never done that in the 10 years she's been with us.

Oh you poor thing. I am so sorry that happend. Don't feel bad- you had no way of knowing Cleo would bite.

There is nothing that you could have done to prevent her from getting bitten. No one can predict when a dog will nip. At least DD is okay and wasn't hurt more seriously.

You are not the worst mommy- the dog had no previous behavior like this! At least you are removing the dog- my BIL dog has bit at least 3 people and is still in their home!  He's little but still... I hate bringing my DD there- I have to watch her constantly.

Oh god, that's awful I'm so sorry! Don't blame yourself though -these things are never predictable. You had no way of knowing Just be thankful it wasn't worse

Oh no - we have a jack and we have a pug. I am always worried this will happen with the jack. Its not your fault - its definitely a surly breed.

I feel a bit better, but no matter how much i love that dog, my daughters will always come first and what's to stay the next time she nips it wouldn't be worse right? She was at my feet, DD wasn't even doing anything, she was petting her and talking to her. I didn't think anything of it cause DD wasn't being malicious. I just feel awful...DH is beyond ****** off, he's not a fan of that dog and never was, he never ever trusted her around the babies.
What's weird, is that someone just warned my dad yesterday that jack russells get more and more less tolerant and grouchy of young kids/babies as they get older, she told him be very careful and be ready to get rid of her.
Just goes to show you, no matter the breed or temperant, and dog can nip. Cleo was a very neurotic normal jack russell who was sweet, but in her old age, lost it. She growled at me yesterday and has NEVER done that either.
I'm a dog lover and this hits me, but i have to put my kids first

Get her to the doc right away. Have that wound cleaned out. Dog’s mouths are full of bacteria. My DD was bit, need stitches behind her ear. The docs in the emergency room told us how bad dog bites get if they're not cleaned out properly.

I cleaned it out with peroxide? It's not bleeding anymore and doesn't need stitches, but you think really i should take her to the doc?
I'm calling my PED right now.

Peroxcide is not good to clean out wounds. That bubbling you see is the peroxcide damaging cells. This is info from the ER and the CPR/First Aid certification course I have taken, not my opinion. Don't worry it is not a big deal but they will clean it out with a sterile saline solution.
