Dont feel bad... my little nephew was bitten by his dog in the finger because the baby was giving him some food and when he stop giving him. the dog try to take it from the babys hand, it all happen so fast specially when you know the dog...

This type of situation was the the catalyst for my divorce. My husband's dog attacked Amber, I wanted the dog gone and he did not. I got rid of him instead.

Thankfully your daughter is OK.
I know it is a hard decision, but don't doubt yourself...your children are the priority and if their safety is at risk it should be no question!

I know i'm doing the right thing, i will protect my children at all costs, it's just the dog lover in me is heartbroken. I can't believe it had to come to this.
I can't live with a chance that she'll bite one of them again or even worse next time. My girls are 24 months and almost 11 months, i just can't take that chance.
Cleo was my first baby and my DD adored her..

Thank you adrianna You are right. Whether i was inches away or 8 feet, she was going to nip her no matter what i did.

your def. not the worst mommy you had no way of knowing!!
my DD was nipped by my MIL dog...this dog has a history and DH was holding her (she was like 10wks i think) and letting the dog sniff her...well she nipped at her head...DH pulled DD away who was thankfully just scared....that dog is no longer allowed anywhere near my daughter!

Get her to the doc right away. Have that wound cleaned out. Dog?s mouths are full of bacteria. My DD was bit, need stitches behind her ear. The docs in the emergency room told us how bad dog bites get if they're not cleaned out properly.

I cleaned it out with peroxide? It's not bleeding anymore and doesn't need stitches, but you think really i should take her to the doc?
I'm calling my PED right now.
Peroxcide is not good to clean out wounds. That bubbling you see is the peroxcide damaging cells. This is info from the ER and the CPR/First Aid certification course I have taken, not my opinion. Don't worry it is not a big deal but they will clean it out with a sterile saline solution.
ITA -- get her to the Dr.
DH was bit and it turned into a big infection even tho he cleaned it out really well. You must get her on antibiotics.
ETA - just saw that you went to the Dr. So glad you did!
I am so sorry about the dog - it must be heartbreaking. You had no idea it would happen. Please don't blame yourself.

I'm so sorry that happened. We had a Jack Russel too and had to find a home for him b/c he went at my son a few times. It's so tough. I'm sorry. Just like you, my jack russell was my first baby and it was so hard. But we found him a wonderful home with another dog and he is having the best time. You are NOT a bad mom, you had no way to know that would happen. I know you wish you saw it but you had no idea. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I am glad you decided to go. Open wounds for bites are never good. A adult would probably get a shot in the ER.

I am glad you are getting it checked. I got a very stern lecture from the doctor when I got a dog bite. You should always go to a doctor with a bite. I even made my niece go when she got a little scratch from the dog's tooth having scraped her skin. That time I was going overboard but it was worth the peace of mind.

I am so sorry. As someone who has a dog that is not 100% trustworthy, I understand your dilemma and pain. Are you sure that you do not want an opportunity to say goodbye to your JRT when you feel a bit more up to it?
