Re: My poor baby (sorry so long)

i would start looking for a new daycare honestly ... it doesn't seem like they are taking your dd allergy seriously... i mean what if it were a peanut allergy.. so many things have peanut oil in it.. they would HAVE to know the ingredients. hope she feels better!Chat Icon

OMG! I am so sorry! I would be livid with the daycare. It's their job to know about her allergy and follow through according to your wishes. I hope you find a better situation.

Hope Hannah feels better!Chat Icon

Re: My poor baby (sorry so long)

Jodi, sorry to hear Hannah is not feeling well. That is terrible that daycare can't follow your daughters food requirement.

As for the ear infections, Sara is the same way. No fever, just gets cranky, fussy, aggressive and usually a runny nose.

She has had a few so I bought this ear check monitor
http://www.earcheck.com/Consumer/ProductInfo/Experts/Index.htm

If you have a costco membership you can order it on line cheaper there. I just ordered one for my sister.

Anyway, it works everytime. When I thought she had one or she was just off I would check and of course she did, so I knew right away to call the dr.

I've been there myself thinking DD was being like you described only to find out she had an ear infection when i thought it was teething.

I would though be FURIOUS about the milk allergy issue at daycare. UNACCEPTABLE!!
Did you talk to the director?

Me too!!! I'm so sorry!

most daycares I know of are pretty good about keeping ontop of kids allergies - I would look around!!!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Feel better Hannah! I can't believe that happened in Daycare. I would be livid! Especially since this is not the first time. It's hard enough that you have to outline specific meals everyday, but to have to worry that your directions won't be followed on top of that..!?!

Does Hannah get sick from other kdis at daycare? Maybe put your feelers out for a new place. Chat Icon

Poor HannahChat Icon I didn't know when Ava had a double ear infection either. The symptoms were basically the same as when she teethes and she wasn't really running a fever.
As far as your daycare situation goes, I'm beyond angry for you.
Is there anywhere in the room where Hannah's picture is posted with a listing of her allergies? That's probably a good idea.Chat Icon

Thanks everyone for your advice, opinions and hugsChat Icon

To clarify...she's not in LI so no worries that she goes to your daycareChat Icon

Also, her picture, her allergies and her menu are all posted on her cabinet where I put all of her non-perishable food, bibs, spoons, bowls etc.

I feel this was 100% negligence and there was nothing else I could have done. I'm home with Hannah tomorrow and will see if I can get out to see some other centers.

Oh poor Hannah and poor mommy Chat Icon

I'm so sorry that your baby had to go through this, Jodi... I can only repeat what the other ladies have already said here... that it is just completely unacceptable that your daycare 'messed up' by giving Hannah a milk product when she is allergic, and you really need to try and perhaps find somewhere else for her..

I hope she is better soon Chat Icon!!

I agree. I would be FURIOUS especially if it's the second time. With everything you read about allergies these days, there are some that are so serious it's scarey.

New teacher or not there is NO excuse. That's one of the first things they should be briefed on.

I hope she feels better soon. Sorry you have to deal with thisChat Icon Chat Icon

I agree, there are some things you can overlook because at a large day care they're not going to get individual one-on-one attention the entire day. But allergies are not one of those things. And for it to happen twice! And with a food with the word MILK in it!

I'm glad you're looking for other centers, but even if you don't leave I hope the director understands how important this is to you and that she educates ALL of the teachers there on Hannah's allergy.Chat Icon
