Names
What would you have been named if you were born the opposite sex? What were some other options your parents had? Do you think your parents made the right choice?
The winning name: Julie Other girl name possibility: Vanessa Boy name: James (after my dad)
I think they picked the right name. I can't imagine being Vanessa!

Re: Names
My mom was convinced that I was going to be a boy, so she had Michael or Andrew all ready to go.
However, surprise! They didn't have any other options picked out for a girl, since they assumed I was going to be a boy. I think I'm named after my great-grandmother...I mean, I know she had the same name as I do, so I'm assuming that's why my parents picked it.

I like my name...but wouldn't mind Courtney. It's uncommon but still a name people have heard of.

The winning name: Kristin
Other girl name possibility: I don't think they had one.
Boy name: Christopher (my mom's choice); Barry (my dad's choice, after a deceased cousin)
I like my name; I can't picture being of another name. But most people call me Kris, not Kristin.
I just don't understand how so many people screw up my name.
Christine Christina Kirsten Kiersten
I've been called all of the above. It's really not a difficult name. Some people are just asshats.

Re: Names
Fun topic!
Winning Name: Lisa Other Option: Corrine Boy Name: Joseph or Michael
I like my name, but just like every other Lisa, Jennifer, or Michelle born in the mid to late 70's --- it was 'overdone' --- there were 5 Lisa's in my math class in high school But I do like the name and I do think it fits me.
I know someone who named their daughter Lisa a few years ago (maybe 5 years?) and it was nice to hear it again in a younger generation - although I haven't heard it again since then!

Re: Names
Winning name: Lisa Second girl choice: Amy
Boy name: Thomas
They really thought I was going to be a boy.
I like my name. When I was growing up, there were so many Lisas, but In Germany there aren't that many, so it's nice. Plus the Germans say the 's' with a 'z' sound, so it sounds like a new name.

Re: Names
Winning Name: Veronica Alternate: There were none, I’m named after the Choir director who introduced them. Boy’s Name: Christopher
Honestly my parents thought I was going to be a boy. I ‘hid’ my privates during viewings before. It was ‘unclear’ but the doctors guessed girl.
My nickname should have been Chris (5 letters like the rest of my family) but instead I was called Veronica. I created my own nick name of Ronie to match the 5 letter scheme. LOL. You would THINK the alternate would have been Christina, but no. They were SET on Veronica as the girl name no matter WHAT!
Meh.

Re: Names
Winning name: Susan Runner up: Nancy (really?) Boy name, not picked.
I was named after a crazy Aunt..no actually Aunt Sara who passed and that is my hebrew name.
But Susan was uber popular in the late 60's as evidenced by the 5 Susans in my classes.

Re: Names
I don't know if my parents had picked a boy's name, but the alternate girl's name was Isabel. My dad loved it, but my mom didn't like that it sounded like a sentence. I really like my name, but I think it would've been cool to be an Isabel, because there would have been fewer people with the same time. On my high school softball team, 5 out of 14 of us were named Emily.

I am Kristen too and I deal with the same thing. Nobody can say it or spell it. So annoying.
I am pretty sure this was the only girl name my parents picked out. Not sure what boy names were in the running.

Re: Names
My name is Erin. I know for sure if I were a boy I would have been Sean. Second choice girl...I don't know, but my mom had a baby name book and the only other girl name I remember being starred is Colleen although there were others.
I hated my name for years and I like it now. I prefer it to Colleen even though they're in the same vein. I think I would've made a good Sean though ; in fact, I kept pushing for it for my son's name--DH hated it though.
