Nap question

Sorry, I'm crashing from the parenting board because I'm at the end of my rope here.
I thought I'd ask those of you who have been through this.

DD is 15 months & has always given me a fight for nap time.
I've tried everything (rocking her, ferber method, CIO, laying with her..etc...)

I finally gave up & now I just drive her around.

So here are my questions...

If you had to drive DC around to nap, did you have to continue it or did they eventually nap on their own?

Do you think it's too late to start from scratch & try to sleep train? & what's the best thing to do? I guess CIOChat Icon which I really dread to try again.

If DC was a bad napper, did they stop napping at an earlier age?

I guess I'm looking for some magic answers but I have a feeling I just have to figure it out myself.

But any advice or tips would help.

Re: Nap question

I know I've responded to you a few times on the parenting board, so I hope you don't mind me responding here too. My DS is now 4, but when he was a baby, he always gave me trouble with naps. I was working full time and since my parents and in laws refused to do CIO with him during the day, they resorted to taking him for walks in the stroller to get him to nap. This became the only way he would nap. I would try to nap him in his crib during the weekends, but he was not used to it, so it never worked. It was so bad that when the weather was too cold or rainy, I would be walking him in circles around the dining room until he fell asleep. This went on until right before his 3rd birthday when I had my DD. Because of the time that a newborn consumes, I did not have the time to do our daily stroller nap routine, so guess what happened...he stopped napping. Aside from the occasional time he will fall asleep in the car now, he has not taken a real nap since his sister was born. He gets through the day, but I know he could really use a nap. I've tried everything to get him to nap on the couch, in his bed, in his play tent...he just refuses. I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this, but, as a big believer in CIO, I think at this point with your DD, this might be the only way to redirect her learned habit of needing motion to sleep or fall asleep. I don't know if 15 months is too late to try, but I don't think so. Sorry this got so long, I just feel for you since I know exactly what you're going through. Chat Icon

I don't mind you responding again, I need all the advice I can get! Thank you!
I guess I was just hoping that some day she will just want to nap on her own, but I realize that's unrealistic.

Re: Nap question

Sorrty to give you an answere you probably dont want to hear.

My ds who is almost 3 never napped in the crib. We always had to walk him in the stroller or if we were out and about he would fall asleep in the car. Then again he hasn't been in a crib since a year when he joined our bed :) Now he has dropped the nap all together. I believe he doesn't really need it anymore though as when he was taking the nap he was up unitl 10 and 11 o'clock at night.
