This would be my 12,473 nap question, but if you don't mind...

...I am about to lose my mind Chat Icon

To make a long story short...DD doesn't nap. Or if she does, it isn't for long enough. As a result of CIO, she is able to fall asleep most of the time on her own.

The problem is, 9 times out of 10, she sleeps for 1/2 hour or less. I've tried letting her cry for a little while when she wakes up that soon, but she doesn't stop. I've tried giving her the paci to coax her back to sleep. That's not working, either.

What have these 1/2 hour "naps" translated to? Me being stuck in the house because she needs 5 naps a day Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm not kidding. On Thursday, the girl took 5 naps. Chat Icon

I've tried putting her down earlier, at the VERY first sign that she's tired. Most of time it's too early, and she'll whine and complain for literally 45 minutes until she's past the threshold of when she'll fall asleep, and is on her second-wind.

If she's overtired...well, you all know how that goes. No sleeping going on whatsoever.

I know that what she NEEDS at this age (8 months) is 2 really GOOD naps. She has taken 2 hour naps in the past...but hasn't for the past 3 weeks or so.

I just don't know what to do. She took 1 35-minute nap this morning (woke up at 11:40) and one 1-hour nap this afternoon (woke up at 3:30). She hasn't slept a wink since 3:30, despite driving around in the car for 1/2 hour, rocking her in the glider, putting her on our bed...

DH is upstairs trying to put her down for the night, and she is BESIDE herself because she's so tired...she's been crying for the last 20 minutes.

...is it terrible that I'm actually looking forward to going back to work in 2 weeks? I'm thinking that the daycare might be able to do a better job with her nap schedule than I can, because clearly I am NOT cutting it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i am sorry she isn't napping for you.

i would not sit at home all day though. will she sleep in the car? i would just go out and do my thing and hope she fell asleep in the stroller or car. bring treats and toys to keep her entertained in the stroller.

i don't have any napping advice - we do CIO for naps if he sleeps less than an hour. not sure if you are doing full CIO for naps but it's worth a try.

My DD is 8 months also, and shes awake until bedtime at 3:30ish. Sometimes she sleeps for 2 hours, sometimes 20 min. That was yesterday. Chat Icon I let her lay in there for a while, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Do you go right in and get her or let her hang out for a bit? Have you tried to CIO if she only sleeps for 30 min or less? I have. Sometimes she goes back down.
But regardless, if she sleeps for 20 min or 120 I put her to bed at the same time. Is your DD cranky if you push her to create a schedule?

okay i know i've asked you this before, but my memory is horrendous so be patient with me. Chat Icon

Give me the breakdown of her day. I know right now there is no normal and it's all over the place, but an overall general day.

wakes up for the day? 1st nap? 2nd nap? 3rd, etc? what is the awake time in between naps?

what is her feeding schedule like?

what is her routine at night? what time is bedtime?

How many times a night does she wake? for what reasons?

do you do cio for naps/bedtime/night wakings, all of the above, etc?

Is she going to sleep hungry/wet by chance?

Could you try to keep her up so she doesn't cat nap and keep her to 2 naps? Maybe they will be longer?

I don't know, I know DD does the same thing some days Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
