According to the friends I have on FB who are NCPD response times WILL increase.
This is an excerpt from one of their status updates from yesterday:
"Let's put this in perspective for the non-police residents... Suppose I'm working in Seaford one night and it happens to be a busy night in the 1st precinct (shooting, gang fight, police chase, etc). If a domestic comes out in Uniondale and no other 1st pct car is available, guess whose going... With an ETA of about 10-15 minutes. The Leg. and the County Executive better hope to God that someone doesn't get seriously hurt or die due to this plan."
No offense, but of course NCPD officers are going to be against the closings. Same scenario, how does the location of the precinct change the outcome?
If the officer assigned to a post where a call comes out is many miles away at the station house (precinct), processing an arrest for example (which may be taking longer simply becuase s/he has a farther distance to travel, and because the station house is busier since it is processing more arrests, etc.), and the surrounding cars are all out on calls, and the available car to respond is at the opposite end of the newer, larger precinct, the response time is going to increase simply because the responding officer will have farther to travel -- an officer that would not have had to respond if the original precinct boundaries stayed in effect.
But if that 911 call is YOUR emergency, is it worth the increased risk?
Good points!

Those "community policing centers" are only slated to remain open for another two years or so, and then they'll be closed as well.

Living in Suffolk I really can't respond for Nassau but I can say I have waited hours for the police to respond in the 2nd pct.
Also, I know from my husband (he works in City), that response time can be long there. If you are only putting three cars out a night jobs wait.

Right... and the precincts cover a much larger geographical area.
