Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
I saw this in the newspaper today and it did say that the mother had a history of mental illness! Those poor children!

WOW!!!! those are awful!
But Why didnt the 14 yr. old say anything to anyone? Thats odd no? Unless she either knew the mom was mentally ill or scared in some way.
I know at 14 I wouldnt have put up with that for no good reason? Noen of the kids were young young....So I think some kind of brain washing or something was going on to keep them quiet.
I have to say, I grew up with a mother with mental illness, and she was the opposite - she was so obsessed with cleaning we had nothing in the house - no food, nothing, and she threw my things away all the time.
As a teenager, I was ashamed of her and tried to keep what was happening quiet. No one wants to tell people their mom is crazy and they are living in an out of control way.... Its hard to explain, but its part survival for yourself as well as for your parent...
yeah thats kinda what I thought. That they were used to this. But I did find it surprising a little that none of them spoke up since they were teenagers not young kids. Poor things.

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
OK I am not defending this woman.. she is obviously sick in the head
BUT
Weren't at least 2 of her daughters teenagers?? I believe 14 and 12?
I am sorry at 14 I could cook, clean, Iron, do laundry, etc.
If your mom is sick in the head and can not take care of the house how did the older girls not do something so that they weren't living this way? I would never sit back and let my house turn into that disgusting mess.

When someone has a mental illness & you "mess" with their manifestation of it the result could be a very bad violent reaction.

The mother may not have let them. When my aunt passed, we all couldn't believe her house. My uncle said if he tried to clean anything she would freak out.

I understand that but a mess like this just doesn't happen over night.

Very true...I know someone that grew up like this, and there is not much you can really do if the person will not get help

I understand that but a mess like this just doesn't happen over night. OH I agree 100%. But if the children grew up in a fear of being beaten for cleaning or whatever would set their mom off, then eventually you take the "lesser" of the 2 evils, if you can even say it is lesser... The entire situation is not rational, and the kids could really be scared to death to try & change it.

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
Very sad all around. I can't fathom living in conditions like that. I seriously thought my house was a mess, its now, in my mind, immaculate!
I hope she gets help and I hope the father can get things straightened out.

I just read they took the kids away from her and the father does not have to pay support while they are in custody.

I SO agree with this!!!! Seriously....at 14, come on...and you thought this was normal. They would go to grandmas and see a normal home and not tell her the things that went on! Just crazy!!!

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
What I don't understand is - with the house looking like that and the girls were living there - how did no one at the schools notice something was wrong, because I am sorry to say they had to smell. You can't tell me a house looking like that - you can smell from it.

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
Those girls must have been petrified! They are teenagers, but their mentality may be that of younger children b/c of the mental illness their mom has.

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
The house had no working plumbing. So you know there was no showering or bathing going on. The schools didnt notice that the girls were smelly?
I do believe this woman is totally sick, and the children were prob petrified. I had a stepmother growing up that was a total clean freak (used to go over things with a white glove) and I was 12 years old at the time. I used to scrub walls, toilets, over and over and I never told anyone either. She was crazy and I was scared of her.
The sick part is the filthy woman's MOTHER (the children's grandmother)said on the news.. "My daughter has done nothing wrong."
Are you serious lady???
I hope the kids are put somewhere safe, be it the father or a foster home. Horrible, just horrible...

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
I saw it on the news
I was thinking the kids are teenagers why not clean up but now I understand after reading that maybe she wouldn't let them.
BUT They couldn't have been showering.... Where they going to the laundromat do wash (I saw thousands of bleach bottles in the house) or where they wearing dirty clothes.
The neighbors saw them sleeping in the car and never questioned it? They didn't think that was strange?

That's what I'm thinking as well. How in the world do you see children sleeping in a car and not call anyone to report it, is beyond me. My heart breaks for these kids because right now, it seems as though the decision cannot be made as to who they should be with and if any of the mothers allegations are true about the father, it's very sad, these children are without any parent who is able to care for them properly. IMO, I tend to think there might be some truth to the allegations against the father because the courts are not very quick to prohibit a parent from all contact with their children without good reason. I've seen parents who are abusive allowed supervised visits with their kids; if the courts denied him all access, something's up.
Either way, it's a horrible outcome for these kids and I hope they're in a safe place right now. I can't begin to imagine what they've gone through.

Re: Nasty House in Lindenhurst
This story had me disgusted, sad, angry, shocked, repulsed, all at once..
It's hard to imagine ANIMALS living like this, never mind humans, and innocent children
like someone else said, how can things like this go unnoticed??
makes you wonder how much is going on as we are here right now, that is going unnoticed as we speak...
