Anything that most people do on fb

No. Never.

My kid has no social media presence. Like not a single photo. She’s also 3 and can neither use Facebook nor read.

Posting a message to a spouse on social media isn’t for the spouse. It’s for other people to read. If the person is as in love with their spouse as they claim, I would assume they have in person communication and could convey their feelings in a more personal manner.

Also, isn’t fb uncool now anyway? Doesn’t everyone use Instagram?

But so what? I don’t get why it’s a issue if I wish my husband a happy birthday

Or celebrate my kid by saying how much I love them

Like I said before. It’s in good fun. It’s celebrating love.

And yes. My husband and I do convey it as well.

If you look at a fb post of someone wishing a person they love good thoughts and have a problem with it. Then maybe social media is not for you

I have no idea what’s cool or not. I’m just a sheep

I don’t care what anyone posts. I hardly ever log into Facebook so no, it definitely isn’t for me.

I think sappy posts for all the world to see are not posted as a means to wish whomever a happy birthday or anniversary. They are posted as a way to seek attention. I’m not saying I care (I never said I did care) but call a spade a spade.

Well that’s your opinion It is possible for people to do it because they are just happy

That’s like me saying people who complain about other people posting happy messages are unhappy in their own life. Call a spade a spade

Luckystar I agree with you. The only person or persons who need to hear the words "i Love you" your the best etc, is directly to the person or family. To me most seem Sappy. IMO when I see someone professing their love, and how much they do for other or how blessed they are. It seems as if they are reaching for accolades.

adding. I still believe in sending someone good wishes, happy birthday by phone or card. Any other way to me IMO is not the same

Yep. It does. Every year I see it and I don't get it.
Isn't every day devoted to your kids?
For me it certainly is.

1000% everyday of my life is NOT devoted to my son. I don’t think anyone can say they really do that. Feeding him and helping him with hwk doesn’t seem like a day devoted to him. To me birthdays are a day devoted to kids. And if you add any other special days where you make it all about the kids.

Yep, her birthday. Christmas. A lot of weekends.
Not a made up Facebook "holiday " that NOBODY would even know about unless they saw others posting about and jumped on the bandwagon.
Can anyone really say they "celebrated " national daughter day? Like took off of work, pulled the child from school or went to dinner and an activity that night?
Or is it just a Facebook thing?

I think I only saw one blogger who did and it was on the wrong day (lmfao), but I don’t think the majority of people are actually celebrating these national days. Just posting it on social media, just like I don’t think anyone is really devoting a whole day to tacos, cupcakes, Pi etc lol. No one is running out and getting cards for their kids.

Calling a spade a spade is a racist slur.

That being said, I don’t care if people post stuff on FB. I can scroll by. These people are just sharing the happy moments of their lives. Who knows about the bad moments. Scroll and go about your day. If you take social media that seriously, then you have other problems.

Calling a spade a spade is a racist slur.

FYI.. The word Spade was used as racial slur but the actual phrase "calling a spade a spade" was around way before and has no racist connotation to it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_a_spade_a_spade

It actually originated in the 1st Century, and was introduced to the English language in 1542.

I didn't know the history of the saying until just now.

Well language is changing and it shouldn’t be used anymore. There are many words that change meaning throughout time. Use caution as the article says.

The word Spade hasn't been thrown out the english dictionary. So you don't ever use the word spade or play cards? I feel like this is reaching.

Can we not say the phrase "Monkeying around" as well?

he supermarket and randomly spouting out HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEAUTIFUL, KIND, AND INTELLIGENT DAUGHTER! WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE YOUNG WOMAN YOU’VE BECOME!

so F'D up and I dont understand this either.

What?

LOL, i meant I agree with that part of the post. It sounds stupid when people post a shout out on FB, such as

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEAUTIFUL, KIND, AND INTELLIGENT DAUGHTER! WE ARE SO PROUD OF THE YOUNG WOMAN YOU’VE BECOME "

So what do you think social media should be used for. Genuinely curious

I don’t think it should be used. In my opinion, for a majority of people, it causes more harm than good.

I have a profile that I use to access local buy/sell groups. But I have no personal info, photos, etc.

No, it isn’t reaching. ‘Retard’ hasn’t been thrown out of the dictionary as well.

I don’t think ‘monkey’ would qualify. I’m pretty sure the racist term is ‘ape’. Big difference.

Even ‘duh’ is considered rude.

Retard is not the same as "spade is a spade" and not a fair comparison. Monkey has also been known to be used as a racial slur especially referring to sports players, so it is the same as the Spade example. So no, it's not only Ape.

I am not even going to go there with "Duh".

I don't think anyone thought that, it's nice of you to apologize but so unnecessary. The facts weren't even correct in the original statement calling the phrase racial.

It has no racial derivative and people may avoid it to make sure because of the history the word Spade, but in NO WAY is it a racial phrase.

I’ve only heard ape being used, not monkey.

And I do think ‘retard’ and ‘spade’ are a fair comparison. Both are terms to make fun of people that are considered below society or something like that.

Even ‘duh’ is considered rude.

I apologize if anyone took offense to my use of that particular idiom. I did not mean it to be derogatory in any way.

I don't think anyone thought that, it's nice of you to apologize but so unnecessary. The facts weren't even correct in the original statement calling the phrase racial.

It has no racial derivative and people may avoid it to make sure because of the history the word Spade, but in NO WAY is it a racial phrase.

It actually is becoming a racial phrase. I mean come on. It’s basically saying call a (insert your word that I won’t type out) a (again insert the word that no one will say).

It’s basically saying call a black person a black person. It’s derogatory and even if it is used on an idiom, the sentiment remains the same.
