Need a plan! I'm a new mom looking to lose weight

I've been kickboxing every saturday for a month now. I'm trying to go more than once a week but with 4 month old twins and only late classes I can attend, its been so hard.
My eating habits were always on point but being on maternity leave for 4 months destroted my good habits. I need to get back on track to make my workouts count. HELP!
Should I try meal replacement shakes to kickstart things?
I'm not breastfeeding so I can pretty much try any diet to incorporate into my workout.

Also, my stomach hasn't completely gone down yet and as luck has it, having twins has stretched my skin so I have loose skin in the lower ab area. Im extremely self conscious about it and don't know how to get back in shape. Kickboxing has been so instense and its a total body workout but im not sure diet and exercise will do it. I proably need a tummy tuck. Chat Icon
Any BTDT moms have advice?

I did Jenny Craig after 2 of my kids. I lost 25-35 lbs both times. Good luck!

I'd give yourself sometime. Four months is still relatively soon after giving birth. I also felt like I got so off track after my DS was born. I started just making small changes. Like eating a better breakfast: Smoothie, eggs, no sugary cereal lol. And then worked on my other meals. I found that I was skipping meals and maybe not eating so much junk but just not eating well either. I know it sucks but hang in there. You are better developing good habits than the meal replacement route.

I recommend the 21 Day Fix. It's all just portion control and daily 30 minute workouts that can be done at home. I lost 13lbs. when I did it. I wish I could find my motivation to do it again because it def works. Good luck, I know how hard it is!

4 months is still soon so I would give it some time. But 9 months after having my DS I started weight watchers along with my workout and I lost all the weight from my DS plus the weight I gained 2.5 years prior to having DS from fertility treatments when I got pg with my twins. Once I joined WW and got my eating habits back on track the weight fell off relatively quickly and I was wearing jeans that I hadn't worn in 3 or 4 years. Good luck, it's so hard but you can do it!

I've heard pros and cons and that it's especially a lifestyle change, but I know several people doing isagenix and they look amazing.

I've actually thought about it but the $$ and knowing that it's something I would need to stick with has held me back.

I did great on weight watchers. Exercise will help change your shape but if you want to lose mass, you have to do that through diet. I'm at my pre kids weight. Happy as I gained 20 lbs after my DD before I even got preggo with DS! But it's all gone now. Chat Icon

Re: Need a plan! I'm a new mom looking to lose weight

I use the Isagenix products and they work REALLY REALLY well for me -
I lost close to 20 lbs the first 30 days on the program.
I never became a consultant, I just like the products.

People always tell you the obviouis, that you don't have to spend $$$$ just 'eat healthy" -
I"ll be honest with you - it seems expensive, but when I break it down and do the math, I'm paying less than $6/day to eat breakfast AND lunch - for ME, it's about the convenience of it all, and THAT is why I'm abel to stick with it.

Re: Need a plan! I'm a new mom looking to lose weight

I feel your pain. My son is 5 months old tomorrow and I am having a really hard time losing the remainder of my weight. I gained 50 with him and lost 30 so far. I used to eat extremely healthy and work out 5-6 days a week. I am still able to work out on my lunch break but the eating is much more difficult. By the time I get home from work and try to spend some time with him before bed, it leaves me with quick dinners or snacking on a bunch of things. I am at the point now where I am seriously considering weight watchers. I do know people love the 21 day fix. I considered it but was a little overwhelmed with the planning of all the meals however, I have seen people who follow it and they look amazing.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't have twins and my stomach looks nothing like it once did. I keep looking at all my fall and winter clothes and I want to cry because nothing still fits. We will get there though!

Weight watchers is the only thing that worked for me. It was slow and steady, but I got there in the end.

A meal plan is my main concern because I know I can do that. Working out at home is just not realistic right now. If I'm home, I won't get it done. That's why I have to leave to go to kickboxing class. Its the only way! I may just get back into Weight watchers. Uhhh...dieting sucks. LOL. I long for the days of when it was just healthy eating and maintaining. Chat Icon
NONE of my clothes fit. Not even my shoes. I had to buy a new pair of sneakers and other than that its been flip flops. Which..flip flop weather is pretty much done. I'm screwed! LOL.

This for me as well.

I lost a total of 50 lbs so far (which was more than my goal), but it took time. The great thing is that it is completely manageable to do long term. I still am doing it but definitely do not feel like I'm on any kind of diet. It just requires planning on my part, but it's well worth it.

Toward the end I also did the 21 day fix (the workout part only) which helped me drop several dress sizes, but did not drop any weight on it. I love that program because it's only 30 minutes a day total, so very convenient for working moms like me.

Im the same way, working out at home just wont work for me. I will say I will do it but something will distract me or I just get lazy when I am home. I need routine so for my lunch hour every day, I am working out. It sucks but it's really the only way right now. DH works late nights so I need to get it in somehow. My shoes don't fit either, none of them and neither do my wedding bands still. It's really frustrating.

I totally agree, gone are the days of eating healthy, doing light workouts and maintaining, at least for now. We will get to that point again though, it just might take a little more time and effort...but it still sucks

Honestly I wouldn't focus on exercise. If it is a huge strain to find the time then don't. You can lose all the weight by changing what goes in your mouth. Whether it be a meal replacement type diet or WW or something out.....losing weight is all about food.

J. this was me after twins. no joke!
By Christening- I was looking a pics and would cry.

I decided to do WW. Back then it was the only thing to offer since it was 5 yrs. ago and Isagenix wasn't out nor any of the Beach Body stuff.

It worked....dropped 15lbs.

I'm also going to be the one to tell you that it does take time. We carried TWO BABIES!
9 months to get there and it def. took me more than 9 months to lose it but it did come off and kept it off.

I know. I try to tell myself that and I do get it. It's not gonna happen overnight. It's just so hard. My weight has always been up and down but when im on a really good diet and workout plan by body completely transforms. I know its not gonna be that easy now. There is skin loose and stretchmarks that weren't there before. I guess I just have to get past that first. Be ok with it, and then move on and just get my diet in check.

thanks

yes. Accept that part. Badge of Honor.
I also think you look great as a mom who just had twins. don't be so hard on yourself. You are super busy, priorities are elsewhere...that make you the best mom ever and in due time, things will come. Promise Chat Icon

It's a 'lifestyle' change for as much as you want it to be -
If you go hard core, the weight will come off much faster, if you ease into it, slower .......obviously. I did the first 30 days hard core - no alcohol, dairy, red meat etc etc. - After I lost the first 20, I incorporated things back into my life - I'm not a HUGE drinker, but when I go out I drink - I don't eat dessert all the time, but when I WANT it - I eat it.
I'm much more conscious of what I put in my mouth and when, and for the most part try to stick with the 'lifestyle' - brown rice, brown rice pasta, quinoa, instead of white rice, regular pasta, italian bread etc -
But if I'm out to dinner at an Italian restaurant, I eat the freakin' garlic bread and have a few glasses of wine.
IMO. once you get the weight off, it's what you do MOST of the time that matters.
If you hoover cheeseburgers and ice cream as your every day diet, it's going to come right back ........if you eat a cheeseburger once in awhile - it's not going to do a damn thing - KWIM?
I do drink the shakes 2x a day for the most part - b/c it's just easier for me and helps keep me in check.

Good Luck !

See...when you put it that way, this is something I can totally do! I'm the kind of person that chooses brown rice/pasta or quinoa over white rice/bread/pasta anyway. My problem since the babies were born has been not cooking as much and ordering out. I always try to get the healthier option but its still take out, you know?
I will really think about Isagenix. Thanks so much!

I recommend the 21 Day Fix. It's all just portion control and daily 30 minute workouts that can be done at home. I lost 13lbs. when I did it. I wish I could find my motivation to do it again because it def works. Good luck, I know how hard it is!

I really like this. The workouts are only 30 minutes so it's a lot easier to squeeze them in. The diet is basically clean eating and portion control. Meal prep is key, but it becomes a lot easier once you get used to it. I've done South Beach in the past, but I really felt my body transformed with 21 Day Fix. Other friends have had a lot of success with it too. I've lost 15+ pounds and I'm at my lowest weight since I got married 10 years ago. You can buy the shakes, but they're pricey and not for everyone. I liked the shakes for convenience, especially as I usually eat breakfast on the road, but you can definitely do the meal plan without them.

Need a plan! I'm a new mom looking to lose weight

I started weight watchers 3 weeks ago. I'm down 10 lbs (I actually think it's a little more bc I didn't do my first weigh in until 6 days after starting WW and I definately lost those first 6 days too. I gained too much weight after my 2nd DS and I am determined to loose it. If I loose another 10 pounds I will be so happy. I will admit it's not easy. I like food, I enjoy eating, cooking, going out to eat. It takes planning, but I think the planning is what leads to it working.

I didn't do ww after my twins but did it after my 3rd was born. I lost 17 lbs fairly quickly and it taught me alot about my eating habits.

Try to eat "clean" and if you can't do it all day try for breakfast and lunch. This has helped me lost another 5 lbs and get me to a lower weight than before my twins.

Buy a workout dvd or do youtube workouts. Put the babies on the floor or in the swing and just start. You will be surprised how much they will enjoy watching you.

Take lots of walks with them. You'll be exercising and you won't be eating!

Good luck! you will get there. Unfortunately althouugh I weigh less than before my twins and I am in MUCH better shape. The damage is done to my stomach. My skin is lose and will never be the same but I am proud of how my body looks otherwise! Besides surgery there is nothing I can do to change that.

Diet and exercise will certainly help! You should try to find more time to work out. I know it is hard, but diet and exercise really go hand and hand. If it is that important to you, you need to make it a priority. Somehow....I know easier said than done. But, the only way to get the skin back to your muscles is to exercise (or have a major surgery). Kick boxing is fantastic cardio and there is definitely core work, but I would suggest a more focused core workout and increasing your cardio to 3 days a week. I use the Tracey Anderson post pregnancy videos, I think they are great. I also bought a few of her other DVDS. The PP workout is about an hour a day. But honestly, if you want to see results you have to put in the time. There is no magic recipe other than working out and eating clean.

Recently, I started following the blood sugar solution diet. It is comparable to paleo. I like it. The best thing about it is for a busy mom, there is not much to it. You basically eat clean. You can google for more info. There is a book about it. I didn't read it. I bought the cookbook which summarizes the diet.
