Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
Does anyone's daycare center stop giving their child a crib in the 12-18 mos room?
I was shocked to find out this info. My baby is coming on Friday. I will be sending her in January at 3 mos. She will then be in the infant to 12 month side. The director said she did a lot of research on it and when the children move to the 12-18 month side they nap on mats/individual rugs, not a crib. I was SHOCKED and not happy and yet I love everything else about this center. I can see maybe at 15-18 mos but from 12-15 mos won't this be bad? Also, what about at home. It may mess up what I do with crib sleeping.
Any help/advice is appreciated. Maybe I am just inexperienced and you ladies will tell me 12 mos out of a crib is fine.
Thanks, Keri

Re: Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
I worked in a daycare center in the 12-24 month room. We had cribs or pack n plays for the kids on the younger end and mats for the kids closer to two.

We put kids on cots when they are 18 months. 12 months is a little bit young IMHO.

My daycare does the same...18 months and on a cot. I thought THAT was young at first.

Re: Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
When I thought DS was going to be going to daycare, and I was researching, it was usually anywhere between 14-18 months that they put the kids on cots.

Same for my daycare centers & I agree on the 12 months being too young for a mat/cot.

Re: Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
My DS started his new daycare at around 13 months and had to sleep in a cot. His old daycare had the 12-18 months in cribs so I was so worried that he wouldn't sleep and would have a hard time...but he took to it really well. The teachers were the biggest help...rubbing his back and helping him get comfortable..plus creating a routine to let him know it was nap time. In no time he was taking 1.5 - 2 hour naps...still does...and he still sleeps in a crib at home so no problems with either. At first I was concerned but overall I am happy about the situation. He took to it well and I feel like he will transition to a bed a lot easier (I hope) because of this.

Re: Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
ours does "mats" (basically a crib mattress with their sheets on) on the floor at 18 mos....my dd had no issues and actually loves it...she now lays down on the floor and curls up on her own when she gets tired....i haven't hear dat exactly 12 mos though...i know when dd went to the 18 mo room, she transitioned for about a week or so before going there and they tested her on the mat a few times, do they do that?

Re: Need Advice/Opinion On A Daycare Question
My DS started at his current daycare at 14 months. (He was in a different place before that and was in a crib.) The room he started in was called the walking infant room and they slept on cots. I was a little concerned, but he took to it really well. He's now 17 months- in the toddler room- and goes right to sleep on it.
He started sleeping much better once he left the infant room setting. I think he was getting bored in there. In the walking/toddler rooms they take him out to play twice a day and run his little but off.
