Need Advice Re: Diapers & Rash- Developing Allergy at 5 Months?
My DD has been using Pampers Swaddlers since she was born. She is now 5 months and last week (Friday) I noticed a really red rash on her thighs and lower back, right where the outer parts of the diaper would come in contact with her. Her privates and butt are all OK with no rash at all. We took her to the Ped who said that it looked like an irritation and to throw away the pack of diapers we were using (she said they might have some kind of irritant??) and open a new pack (still pampers size 2-3). She also said to apply 1% Cortizone cream twice a day. We have been doing this and the rash does not look as red but is still there. It is particularly bad on her back.
What else should I do? Has anyone's DC developed a rash to a diaper this late? Another thought I had was that the 2-3 are too big and the pee might be leaking to the stretchy parts of the diaper causing it to stay wet overnight? Anyone have any recs for us?

Do you use powder? Have you changed her bathing products? Do you use a special laundry detergent? Even though it is around the diaper area, it could be caused by a different irritant.

My son could not use pampers or luvs...it would give him a rash similiar to what your describing. I switched to huggies and didn't have a problem. Maybe buy a small pack of a different brand diaper and try it out to see if the rash goes away. HTH

Could just be something that happened to that particular package of diapers in manufacturing. I'd do what the doc said....try a new package.
I had an issue with a case of pampers- not a reaction issue, an issue where they were literally falling apart. There was something clearly wrong with this case of diapers. I sent an email to pampers from the contact info on their website, and they sent me 3 $10 coupons for Pampers diapers. So, if it is not the pampers diapers in general, I would definately contact the company.

Maybe a latex (?) allergy. Whatever is in the elastic is what I would think would be causing the rash.

I honestly don't think it is that. I have a very serious latex allergy (I can't even use rubber bands b/c of the rubber!) and the elastic in DS' diapers has never bothered me.
How long has it been? I'd switch to a new brand and see what happens

maybe change brands? If you think it could be a chemical, maybe try luvs as the OP suggested, and if that doesn't work, maybe go green (7th gen diapers)?
