Need advice re:2 small medical issues DS has (tongue tie & circumcism)
DS has two different issues:
1- He is tongue-tied and I need to get his frenulum snipped. I had it when I was young but they did it in the hospital before I was brought home. Today's theory is to wait and make sure it doesnt interfere with eating or speech. DS is 9 1/2 mo. It hasn't interferred with his eating at all, but I am afraid if I wait too long and it effects his speech he will have problems. My ped. recommended Dr. Cyrillos (I know a few other LIF mommy's have used her) and I called her the other day. I figured she would want to see him first to see if he needs it done now or if i should wait. She tells me she wants to do it in her office at his initial appt. She said they do not use general anesthesia, only a local anesthetic. She said I have to bring a big blanket to swaddle him with, the nurse will hold his head and she snips the frenulum. I am concerned b/c DS hasn't been swaddled since he was 1 months old. I can only imagine how much this is going to hurt.
If your DC had to have their frenulum snipped, at what age was it done? Did they use local or general anesthesia?
2 - When DS was born I had him circumisized and it looked perfect for the first couple of weeks. Than the skin started to pull down a little. The pe.d recommended we pull the skin back when we change him but it hasn't helped. So now I have to decide whether or not to get him re-circumsized and for this he would have to get general anesthesia.
So here is my dilemma...Do I get his tongue snipped now and wait to see what I decide to do regarding his circumcision? Or should I wait and get them both done at one shot under general anesthesia when he is a year old or so? I am very nervous about "knocking him out".

She said after she snips the frenulum, she has to hold her finger there for 4 min. to stop the bleeding and that I should bring a bottle. She said he obviously won't be happy, but that I can give him motrin and tylenol to help. She said he is reaching the "cut-off" age for the local anesthetic and that if I waited he would have to be put under general anesthesia where it would be done with a laser.
I just wish I demanded they do it in the hospital when he was first born. He didnt even cry when he was circumsized.

the laser sounds less painful however then you have to worry about him being put under. If I were to make the decision for my DS, I think I would do it with the local. After weighing the options, I think I would rather him suffer a little more than have "surgery".
I know its a tough decision either way. Which did your ped recommend as the "better" option?
