Need advice, work related...
I have an interview on Monday () for a job within the same college I am already working for, just at a different campus. It's a better position, more money and the location is much closer so I obviously really want to get it.
I'll be 13 weeks pregnant and I can still definitely hide it, but what would you do? Tell them or just go along with the interview and if you're offered the job take it and worry about telling them when you start working? I feel kinda bad hiding it, but I also don't want it to be a factor in whether or not they hire me.
What do you think? Have any of you been through this?

HOnestly, I wouldn't say anything....
Go to your interview and if you get the job tell them a few weeks after you have been there and have settled in!

Re: Need advice, work related...
Does your current department / co-workers know you are pregnant? If so, I would definitely tell them in the interview. If they call to check your references, they may find out!
I would probably be up front and tell them. However, tell them that you are really interested in the position and that your career is very important to you and that you WILL most definitely be returning to work after you have the baby.
(Obviously, if any of the above is not true, or if you are unsure, I wouldn't say it!)!
Good luck with the interview!!!

Yes, the dept. I work in now knows i'm pregnant. If they call for a reference (which they will) do you think me being pregnant would come up? I can just tell my boss not to say anything, she's cool.

Since you are already 13 weeks- I would say something. If you were still early and could get away with saying you didn't know- that's one thing. But I think they may get mad if you don't tell them.

I know, that's why I want to tell them. I'd feel bad telling them once I start and with the college it can be 1-2 months from interview date to start date b/c of all the b.s. in between. But I really don't want it to be something that costs me the job either. I'm torn.

Re: Need advice, work related...
I would tell your current boss to keep your pregnancy to herself and I wouldn't tell them at the interview either. Unfortunately pregnant women are discriminated against by people who don't even realize that they are doing it. You have a right to be considered for a job based on your talent and experience and you being pregnant shouldn't be brought in to that decision.
ETA: Good luck at your interview!!

She shouldn't bring it up because it's not relevant to the job itself. I def wouldn't tell them, if you do get the job, at least you are with your same employer for benefits, FMLA purposes etc.

ITA. If you had a high blood pressure, would you tell them? No. Whether it's fair or not, they WILL factor in your pregnancy when making their decision.

Definitely don't say anything until you get a job offer. You should tell them if and when you get the offer though.

Re: Need advice, work related...
OMG Jess, I went through the same thing. When I was layed off and interviewing for a new job I was about 8 weeks along. When I went on interviews I did not say anything about being pregnant, because whether we want to believe it or not, there is discrimination. My advice would be, if you get the job, tell them in a couple of weeks and be surprised. If you have to lie about the weeks, oh well. Best of luck....I hope you get it!!!

Say Nothing. It's not right but there is descrimination out there. I know you're thinking that if they want me now, they'll want me anyway if I'm pregnant. Not always the case.
Get the job. Good luck!

When you got a job, how long did you wait to tell them and how far along were you when you got a job? How did they take it? Thanks Carissa!

Tell them WHEN they offer you the job - NOT during your interview.

Re: Need advice, work related...
I probably wouldn't say anything till they offer you the position. Since you already are employed for the company I think they would have a harder time terminating you.
However, I do know someone who was recently let go here on Long Island when she went to a new employer, newly pregnant.
They used "downsizing" as a reason to let her go, but it came about about a week after she disclosed she was a few months pregnant and had only been there about 1 month.

Re: Need advice, work related...
I was in a position where I got a job and found out I was pregnant the same day. I didn't tell them until it was obvious. They weren't upset, and you don't have to tell them anything. You already work in the school so it's not as if you are starting a "new job".
I would hold off on telling them anything until it's obvious, and if your boss is cool I'd tell her not to say anything, because chances are it could have an effect on whether you get the job or not - even though they won't admit it.
Good Luck!!
