Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
Please
If I have to look at my little man's face watching me so intently while I drink from a cup any longer I am going to fall apart laughing....so I need to help the kid out.
I have a sippy cup for him...but ummm....what exactly - or how exactly - do we do this.
A silly question I'm sure but I had to ask.

When you gave it to Noah...how did he react...did you have to guide him or just let him play with it. How long did it take for him to get it?

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
I just gave it to him w/milk to replace his afternoon bottle. I started giving it at 8 months and not until 11-12 months did he drink out of it. He just bit the spout and played with it for like 4 months!

He just played with it for a while, sometimes he drank from it, sometimes he held it upside down and watched the water fall out, sometimes he threw it at me...and then after a few months, he started to drink from it all the time. But he played with it for ages. He had to learn what to do!

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
I introduced it at 6mths. I would give 1 or 2oz of water during lunch and dinner. At first he would just play with it but then I showed him how to hold it and I tilt his head back to drink.
Now at 14mths I have no issues at all getting rid of his Dr. B bottles and just giving him the nuby sippies.

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
Thanks everyone!!! Now I think I understand...He's 6 months so I think I will give it to him and expect that he is going to play with it. We'll try to show him every now and then but I'll let him discover it.

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
I started at 5 months and they would play with it at first (got it thrown at me a few times too lol) and then after a few days, they got the hang of it and I got rid of all the bottles altogether!

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
I'm glad you posted this because I was wondering too. Thomas is almost 8 months, and I started giving him sippy with water at about 6 months. He doesn't know what to do with it. He plays with it and bites the spout. But my question is, are you supposed to keep the valve in the spout when they are first learning? It seems like he won't be able to figure out that there is anything in there and that he has to suck for it to come out. I tried showing him the water in the cup before putting the cover on. He lunges at real cups and will take small sips of water from a regular cup if/when I let him.
Also, can anyone recommend a good sippy cup to start with?

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
I have been giving mikayla a sippy cup every day since about 7 months and she still does not totally "get it"
She does not know how to tilt her head back to drink out of it (I may try to help her with this) so she uses the straw sippy. Even with the straw sippy, she is still not 100% on board with drinking from it.
She will take a few sips and then throw it on the floor

Re: Need an introducing a sippy cup tutorial from the BTDT moms
i started josh at 4=5 months b/c he would'nt take a bottle. he chewed it for a day or two but then i put his fav. fruit on the tip of the spout and he started sucking on it. i did that for a week or so and now at 7 months he drinks from a straw and spout sippy like a champ. but he still wants to nurse usually.

This is what I did. Filled it with water and she played with it for awhile but eventually got the hang of it.

I just started cold turkey. I took away the bottles and gave him sippy cups instead.
