I used to go to Chicky for color. She was great. I was never happy with any haircut that I got there and I tried at least 4 people.
If you do wind up going there, expect some attitude at the check in counter. Those women are total witches.
OMG YES! What is it with hair salon receptionists in that area?
Definitley make an appt first.
OMG - they are nuts. First - I think they dress to impress each other and the one with the fake boobs and tank top year round has no personality. Then there's the little short one with very short black hair who seems like a little tyrant. I could go on and on and I havent been there in like 3 years!

I happen to love Christies and have been going there forever. I have never had a problem with anyone there and if I would, I would put her in her place..after all, it is your $$. Tank top lady is gone,aside from her boobs- I'm sure you also noticed that she had a body to die for,could put most 25 yr olds to shame..and she was no 25. Christies even hosts seminars in umm,lets say,various "enhancements" so you can safely assume they promote it. In this day and age, I'm sure we all know someone who has had something altered- be it a nose job,botox,boobs,etc.
The little tyrant, Donna- usually stands outside the counter and directs traffic while her partner tyrant Gerri is at the desk. These 2 run the show and without them, there is total caos.
As for dressing up,they do because the owner Lois has a strict dress code.
Chicky is good for color,there are a lot younger colorists that are better. Cut is a hit and miss,thats true because most of the stylists have a "Manhatten" attitude. Even though its Queens, you will not find a guidette here! Price is the same like everywhere else.. $41.50 for a cut and blow (unless you use a featured stylist,then its 50 bucks) but they use the best and newest products out there.
Don't ask me why I felt the need to disect and review this salon in detail or to even defend them. I'm a regular there from hair to nails to massage and have always been treated top notch. I do on occasion bring some Godiva's or treats for the ladies and this has definetly helped to secure an appointment for me at the drop of a dime..DO NOT GO THERE WITHOUT AN APPT,you will rarely get any service.
Beth- I am shocked that that horrible fiasco with Jakes car even happened..let alone derived from those towers- for some reason everytime I ever passed there,I always thought it must be so classy to live there.. the way they handled the situation was classless!

I haven't been to Christies in about 2.5 years, but I went there for about 5 years and I vividly remember the reception witches and the makeup counter woman!
Cathy, who cut my hair, was awesome and was the only reason I kept going back there for so long.

Make-up counter clown is gone, Ivy,right? Sorta looked like a looney Beth Midler,only red hair?
Cathy had a baby boy last winter,never came back.
Good Lord, I sound like this salons spokesperson!

I lived in Towers at waters edge, until we moved out to smithtown...Christies is great!!! Used to get color there all the time.
ETA: We had several problems with the co-op board...they are nasty!

Oh you will also be close to Hair on 14th - they are pretty good in there despite the receptionists bad attitude.
I was going to suggest them as well. They are so close to there.
