Need help: How much to charge a friend to watch her child
Damn .. where are you and your caregivers and is anyone available to watch my kids for these rates? Day care and child care costs where I live are WELL above these numbers and closer to $20/hour. I think at $10 an hour you would be doing her a favor and making it worth your while at the same time. I would charge $150 for the week.

Personally, I wouldn't charge her anything if she was my really good friend. I would feel weird accepting money from a friend like that. If she was insistent on it, maybe $100 a week.

$150/week is reasonable.

I don't mean to call you out specifically but .. what? To those who commented they would not charge their friend .Would you really commit to watching a friends child two full days a week 52 weeks out of the year without compensation???? For how long wouldyou be ok with doing this.
I have friends that happily take my child for a few hours or even a day if necessary but consistently the way the OP described - I mean I can't even imagine expecting someone to do that without compensation - unless it were a grandchild

Honestly I have one friend I would gladly do this for. I’ve watched friends kids occasionally though and have never ever been paid. I would be upset if they offered.

I would do $150 a week. It’s a long day and it is still a nice favor to do. I feel $100 is too little since like others said it is work.
It’s nice you are charging her less than a daycare but you are still doing a major service for her. And watching an infant isn’t always easy.

$50-60 a day for a good friend. I'd talk to her and ask what she was thinking.

Ive watched a friends child or my niece etc for the day here and there too and there have been occasions when they watched mine. But committing yourself to watch someone else's child twice a week all day, every week is WAY different. Thats a job not a favor.
ETA: I really dont mean to challenge you specifically at all-- I just find it hard to wrap my brain around someone doing this for someone else day in and day out as a favor. esp bc OP doesnt even have her own children home with her. If there are people out there that would do this it makes me feel very selfish for not even considering it!
ETA: Edited for spelling/formulating a sentence that actually makes sense

OMG I totally agree! I would never watch someone's kid that much without getting paid for it. I honestly can't believe that people would! If it was family that's one thing but definitely not for a friend.

And on the flip side, I can't imagine ASKING someone to do this for free. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night to be honest.

Totally agree with you!! I thought that I must be a selfish person after reading a lot of these responses, so I’m glad I’m not alone. MAYBE if I was helping out my friend for only a month or 2 I would charge on the lower side, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. I stand by my original $150 for the 2 days.

I'm with you. $150 for the 2 days is more than fair. If I was helping out a friend once in a while than I'd do it for free. Two days every week is a job and a lot of work. You deserve to be compensated.

ok thank goodness I'm not alone in my apparent selfishness. In any case you probably would not want me watching your child for free or otherwise seeing as how I cant even spell properly
