Need help on getting rid of the paci
DS is 10 month and I want to get him off the paci very soon. He use to have it in his mouth as often as he could. I swear he use to hide them so we couldn’t find them and then we would turn around and he would have one in his mouth. Anyway we have been able to cut back on the use of the paci and now only use’s it at naps and bedtime. So do I just take it away cold turkey? Am I in for a disaster few days? What did you ladies do? Any tips would be Great!!!!!

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
You can try cold turkey but he will ask for it.. Just be sure that you stick to it and he will be just fine.
DS (will be 6 next month) had a paci until he was 7-8 months old.. I just made it disappear..
DD sucks her thumb.. I TRIED to give her the paci but she refused... (that's another dilemma)
DD#2 will be 2 next month and my mission is to get rid of that darn thing! but anytime I try to, the poor thing goes crazy looking for it.. couple that with grandma who feels bad and goes out and buys her more, it's POINTLESS! Grandma is going to have to be banned during the paci removal process lol

We cut the tip and he hated it. Two days of crying i tossed it. We never looked back.

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
I have no idea what to tell you I have a almost 2 year old that still has it for naps and bedtime.
And now that his sister is here, if he sees her pacifier he grabs it takes a suck on it and puts it down. Even the one that is tethered to her carseat! He's like a addict that needs his paci fix.

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
Once DD's tooth finally breaks through the gums I am going to cut them. I don't want to do it yet while she is in pain and not feeling well.
I was going to throw them out, but I don't want her to see someone else's and go for it. I'm hoping by cutting it she loses interest and hates them completely

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
I was thinking the same thing! DD is 13 months and is obsessed with them. I swear she has secret stashes of them cause I take one away and she walks out of a room with one in her mouth! I am afraid to take them away from her while she is teething though!

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
I fear this. Mason is 15.5 months and got it down to bedtime and sometimes naps. Depends. I also think he has a stash b/c I will turn around and he has one in his mouth. He does sleep great through the night so I fear getting rid of it.

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
16 months and she still takes it for naps and bedtime. Molars are coming in and she actually asks for it after bathtime. "ACI, EEEEASE!!!!!"
Honestly, I don't care. It makes her happy while she is sleeping. Is she walking down the aisle with it in her mouth? Not likely.

I took it away cold turkey at 5 months and it was only 24 hours until she got used to it.

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
DD is 2 and we only use them for naps and bedtime. I dont have the heart to take it away bc I know it is so soothing to her. Im such a softie.
I plan on doing 1 of 2 things, whichever works. Either explaining to her that we are going to mail them to a baby in need or cutting the tips and tell her that they no longer work for her bc she is a big girl. So when I think she will understand those 2 things, I will do it.

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
DS is 13.5 mos and still has 1 in his crib only.
Never in public, never outside of his crib. He's getting molars right now. 3 poked through, still waiting on #4.
*I* never give it to him, but DH and my parents do. In fact, whenever i see it, I say, "SUCKY IS YUCKY!" and he throws it on the floor and laughs. He knows exactly what I mean!

Re: Need help on getting rid of the paci
You can try doing cold turkey, it works for some, but it didn't work for us. He cried harder then than he did when were trying CIO for the first time. You can also try cutting the tip. I also read something about dipping it in vinigar. I don't know. Either method won't be easy at this point. Maybe try giving it for some naps and wean it off slowly.
