How about just parking one of your cars in front of your house for a while. Maybe if they get used to having to park in front of your neighbor's house they won't do it anymore.

If it bothers you that much, then park your OWN car in front of your house and your neighbor's visitors will not park there.

I would be VERY annoyed if I received a letter and to be honest, I would park in front of your house or instruct my guests to, on purpose.

I have to agree, I can be a bit spiteful like that.

if i ever got a note like that about parking in a street that no one owns, no matter whose house it is in front of (as long as it doesn't block the driveway), that person might end up with a couple of flats

I have to say that I disagree. I think unofficial "Good neighbor" policy exists and if we can, we do what we can to maintain a good relationship with our neighbors. If they asked us not to park in front of their house (and we don't live in a neighborhood where we have to), I would be happy to oblige -- as long as I was asked nicely.

I agree. My cousins neighbor got upset that people parked in front of their house and said something to my cousin...so whenever anyone in my family goes to my cousins house...for sure, the first place they park...in front of the neighbors house (then they wait for her to look out her curtains from the front window Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's a public street...you really can't tell them where to park. I wouldn't send the note, I'd talk to them in person and I am non-confrontational also, but I would much rather do something like this in person. Sometimes things can be interpreted very differently when they are written. When you are speaking with them face to face, you can read their reaction immediately.

But here is the passive agressive way too:

What I would do is that, since you need to park one of your cars on the street in front of your house, whenever they have visitors that are parked in front of your house, park your car in front of theirs.... even if you have to pull out of your driveway then drive around the block and pretend you are leaving your driveway empty for your spouse. When you park in front of their house, make sure you come very close to *almost* blocking their driveway, without actually blocking it... they WILL NOTICE.

When their visitors leave and your space opens up, leave your car in front of their house as long as possible... until they have to back out or pull into their driveway. They'll have to ask themselves - WHY is she parked over here if her space is empty?? Then maybe the bell will go off and they'll realize that you couldn't park in front of your house because their visitors were taking up the space.

I don't think you should send a letter to them, If I received a letter like that I would throw it out myself. Maybe try parking your car there more frequently this way maybe they would get the point.

Talk to them face to face. Our neighbor got a note from another neighbor in the building about something and showed it to us. he thought she was a freak for not talking to them about it first.

I would probably not say anything, just because no owns the street. but I can totally understand your frustration.

I would ask my guests to park in front of their house though Chat Icon

I wouldn't send a note. I would just say something to them the next time you see them.

We have the same problem and we started parking one of our cars there. I think they got the hint.

Good Luck!~!

I've actually received a note many years ago, something along the lines of "park in front of your own house", and I was PO'ed, crumbled the note up and left it under her windshield.
In all honesty it is a public street, and I don't think anyone has a right to say where you can/cannot park

Re: NEED HELP/OPINIONS! THE "FRONT HOUSE PARKERS" ARE AT IT AGAIN!!

sorry, but I think your letter is not going to be effective. In your letter your issue is with your neighbor's visitors, not your neighbors themselves. What are your neighbors supposed to do?? Everytime they make plans with someone tell them explicitly NOT to park in front of your house???? I just don't see how that is going to work.

me too. And, I don't think you can tell people where to park. Unless, like in my case, they think your driveway is a community one Chat Icon

I understand, and I agree. I just think we all have more peace if we try to be good neighbors when we can.

I would only be upset if they were parking in front of your driveway. Our neighbors visitors used to do it all the time when there was lots of space in the road. I think that anyone can park anywhere on the street. I live walking distance from a large football stadium (68,000 seater) and on match day its a nightmare, so parking is a bone of contention where I live

I got a note like this once - and from someone who I thought I was friendly with that lives on my block! Needless to say I never spoke to him again and I park wherever the heck I want to. NO ONE owns the street besides maybe Mayor Bloomberg!

Hahaha - I was thinking the same thing. I'm in Forest Hills and I would faint if I ever saw a free space in front of my house.

When I lived in Whitestone people would always get angry when someone took two spots (me included) and there was someone in the area who used to leave notes for people (it must have been saved on the person's computer) that explained how hard it was to find parking in the area. If the note didn't read "AZZHOLE" in huge letters on top, I would have said that it was a good way to educate someone who was new to the area and just didn't know better. Chat Icon

I agree with someone who said that it's all about being a good neighbor. If it's a suburban area and there's room in front of the house you're visiting, why NOT park there? Being lazy, I'd also say that it's not as far to walk. Chat Icon

I don't understand why so many people would get so angry over receiving a note like this. She is not saying that she 'owns' the street. She is asking them as a favor not to park in front of their house when they don't have to.
