I understand you are nervous to talk directly to their faces and rather right a note.. but I think you really should speak to them.
No you dont " own the street" but you can say that to them " I know I dont own the street but the dogs drive me crazy, do you think your guests can park in front of your house"?
I think the note just might annoy them more then u actually being friendly and walking up and saying something..

Thats what im saying. Im the first one to complain about it. The people across the street from us ALWAYS PARKED in front of our house. Even though no one was parked in front of their house and no one was parked in their driveway. It annoyed me a little.... I complained online to my friends but I would NEVER EVER say anything to them. Thats just strange. And I don't own the street. Im not even sure why it annoyed me

I don't understand why so many people would get so angry over receiving a note like this. She is not saying that she 'owns' the street. She is asking them as a favor not to park in front of their house when they don't have to.
Because a "note" is tacky. Its their way of trying to get their wish... but not have the balls to actually ask this in person.
You know... if someone had the balls to knock on my door... and asked NICELY about "good parking"... maybe I would appease them and follow suit. But ONLY if they asked NICELY (IN PERSON).
Send me a letter... and you get nothing.

its frustrating when people for the restaurant up the street park in front of the house, but what can we do? the parking lot is small and its a public street.

I 1000000% agree with ALL OF THIS.
I love to gripe about it, but would never ACTUALLY do anything about it.

I wouldn't say anything either. My mom lives in Nassau Cty and doesn't have a driveway, and the only time she's said anything was when it had snowed A LOT and when she got home from work, the guy across the street's girlfriend parked in the spot she spent hours shoveling out. They came right out and moved it.

honestly, I wouldn't give them the note, if it's something that really bothers you, go and talk to them face to face.
Personally, I don't mind my neighbor or their visitors park in front of my house when the street is packed, but it would bother me if there are lots other spots and they choose to park in front of my house.

Even though no ones own the streets, being considerate to others always help. (Unless you absolutely have no choice ofcourse)
I wouldn't send the note but rather tell them nicely whenever you get a chance.
And if you don't feel like doing this, then you should park your car in front of their houses. That will help them to get the message and maybe they will start being considerate to their neighbors.

wow... thanks for all of the words of advice, opinons etc...
I will take the advice and speak to them face to face if this keeps on happening. I live in a suburban area, where everyone has PLENTY of parking in front of their houses.... everyone is entitled to their opinions... I used to live in Long Beach myself and I would never have thought twice about this there cause there are so many cars and nowhere to park... however its not the case here. And I am a believer in being respectful of my neighbors, and to me that would include asking my immediate family to park in front of my house when they come and visit. I am not saying that they need to be asking their friends or whomever... its just that its ALWAYS her MOTHER, SISTER, OR FATHER that parks there EVERY SINGLE day. However, I respect all of your opinions.

If it bothers you that much, then park your OWN car in front of your house and your neighbor's visitors will not park there.
I would be VERY annoyed if I received a letter and to be honest, I would park in front of your house or instruct my guests to, on purpose.
Also, we are unable to park our own car in the front of our own house because they always get there first... we work.. they dont seem to.

I had this problem with our neighbor and it got fixed by us parking in front of thier house AND when either them or their visitors parked in front of my house when the entire street is open I would park my car in front of thiers very close and block my driveway.
I had a friend who had the same problem and when she parked close to their driveway they purposely squeezed into thiers and their bumper was pushing in hers. Her DH took care of it for her! they have moved since then.
