need help with painting in my "open" floor plan. pics included, please please please come in and help me!!

ladies, i would love some help! so, i have a high ranch that in essence, has somewhat of an open floor plan upstairs, as the main rooms all run into one another. our hallway runs into the living room, which is open to the dining room, which is now open to the kitchen. we JUST redid our kitchen before the holidays (total gut job) and JUST got brand new dining room furniture delivered. as you can see in the pics, we originally painted our hallway a light shade of green, and then the living room and dining room we did a darker green on the bottom half and a beige up top with a chair rail in the center.
now that we got new DR furniture and redid the kitchen, we want to, and need to repaint the rest of the upstairs. i'm tired of the green, and we took down the chairrail. i want something a little darker than we have now for the hall, because EVERY scuff etc shows up and it's a high traffic area going up and down the stairs. also, a small area in the kitchen needs to be painted, and i'd like to use whatever color, or color scheme we are doing with the rest of it. so somehow, i want to tie in all of the rooms, but i don't know if i should use one color or two?
also, i'm thinking neutral-ish but i want something different than the beige we've had for years. i was looking at maybe grege avenue by BM?
i included a close up picture of the fabric from the DR chairs if that will help, it's a similar color scheme as our kitchen granite. oh, and down the line we plan on getting rid of the bar in the LR and putting a dark wood entertainment center, and replacing the couches with a sectional, i'm thinking dark brown. the area rug can go to, if needed.
anyone care to play around with me? help? advice? inspirations? pictures? i'd appreciate any and everything, i know so many of you have so many beautiful homes and eyes for design. sometimes when you stare at something and analyze everyday, you become lost. that's me!

Here are some taupe colors that I have always loved. The Shenandoah Taupe has always been my favorite. The Texas leather I also love. I have the paint to do in my bedroom but we ran into other issues so my room moved back on priorty....Good Luck...Now that you have the open floor plan you can do darker and it will look amazing...

I think you need to bring some color in since the granite in the kitchen looks black and the tiles looks gray, it needs a pop. I would stay in the "cool" family, so maybe a grayish blue color, do lighter in the living/dining area, and darker in the kitchen, or vice versa.

Thank u, i love this color! I too was also thinking i could get away with a darker shade bc its all so open. Plus we get a ton of natural light during the day. Do you think a dark brown couch would look good? What color for a stair runner/area rug do u think?

i was actually thinking slate blue or grayish blue originally, but its just not coming together in my head and i dont love the blues next to the kitchen once i started painting swatches on the wall. My granite actually has a lot of movement - its black with silver specks and cream and beige swirled thru it, also specks of a color that matches my cabinets. The floor doesnt photograph properly but its cream with lines of beige colors running thru it. Theres a lot more kitchen pics in my album to get a better idea if that helpsChat Icon

I think a dark brown couch would look awesome...as for a runner maybe you can get something that have some color in it and then you that as accents in the house...Maybe blues, greens, terra cotta, burgundy etc....I will look to see if I can find something and will post...I LOVE these colors and can not wait to do the rest of my house.

I have BM Oakwood Manor in my house, and I love it. It's a beige yellow color. It looks different in different light, and goes with pretty much anything.
