NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
If you have Cablevision, can anyone tell me from a recent bill how much your taxes are?
They told me no taxes on internet and phone, and $3-$4 a month taxes on cable. Seems too low to me.
Basically we have Fi s now. They would lower our bill to $103.97 plus taxes, two yr contract. She estimated like $18ish in taxes. 1 yr price guarentee. We have 3 boxes, multi room DVR is the biggest plus with them.
Cablevision offered to completly buy out Our Fios contract and bill us $103.25 a month for 3 boxes, 2 DVR boxes. ONE free DVR box, one free for 1 yr. And This is no contract and a 2 yr price guarentee. With taxes according to her, it is a few dollars less. Channel 12 news is a plus in this plan.
PLEASE give me opinions! Me and DH are torn which to do?

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I just switched back to cablevision from fios and it is the best move I ever made. Fios has the worst customer service and has no clue what they are doing. I have not received a bill yet so I can't tell you taxes but I am paying $68 a month (plus equipment) for the triple play for 2 years

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I have been getting tons of flies to switch back to cablevision. But, I don't plan on doing it. Yes, it will be cheaper...but that won't last forever, because after the 2 years, it will be back to where it was when I left for Fios. The multi-room DVR is the hands down reason I love Fios. I never really had a problem with either company for service or dealing with customer support.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
We just switched from Dish Network (with a multiroom dvr) to Cablevision, the most antiquated system out there. We only did this to get HD, we have trees in the way for an HD satellite feed. If Fios were here, we would have gone with them in a heartbeat... the multi room dvr is worth the extra few bucks, IMO.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
Wouldn't go back to cablevision!! I was at my parents house this weekend and they have cablevision and I was getting soo annoyed at the guide and the set up of channels.
Plus when I had cablevision, there were always problems with my house alarm. I'd have to have it reset blah blah.
W/ Fios that doesn't happen.

Cablevision is the worst and I can't wait to leave them. It is just the only option in my area. We had the triple play, and it was about $122 a month after taxes back (May 2008-May 2009). My bill went up because the promotion was over, but I was about to get married and didn't want to pay $188 a month for tv. I called over and over and finally got to speak with someone that could help me out. I was promised a rate of $132 for 2 years. That price remained until March of 2010, and it went up. I called again to fight to get my rate back to the $132. In November, it went up to $136 and I didn't call because it was $4 and it wasn't worth the headache, but this past month it went to $150. I called and found out that I was credited a free DVR for a year, and that was credit was up so they are charging me for it now. They completely lied to me about the 2 year price guarantee and have the worst customer service ever. I can't wait until I move so I can give up on them. The only thing that will be missed is Jeff Mendelson on LI Traffic and Weather.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
DH & I had Cablevision from January 2005 until December 2010.
We had phone, internet & TV. 3 on demands & the biggest TV pacakge. We also had the internet boost. After the first year contract ended we where paying $260 a month for the service. We regularly lost internet connection & I can't even remember how often our phone service would go out. We constantly had to set up service appointments & were always told the same crap. Oh this is no good or that is no good. Saying our computers or telephones should be replaced. One day DH completely flipped out on them. He was waiting for an extremely important phone call & of course our phone service went out once again. He called & told the rep that they had to send someone to fix it asap. When the tech got to our apartment we tried telling DH the same crap, that our products where no good. (mind you we have brand new computers, television & phones) So DH made him check all of the wiring. Lo & behold the outside wiring was all screwed up. The original tech used indoor wires outside so the wires where completely ruined from rain & snow. Not to mention that none of the wires where grounded correctly. After DH had the tech rewire the entire apartment he called the next day & canceled the service.
We currently have FIOS, which has been another issue all together. But we have much better service & are in a 2 year contract. We pay $115 per month for telephone, faster internet, multi room DVR & more TV. We also have a clause in our contract which states that if we move to an area that FIOS does not cover before our contract is up we are alloweed to break the contract.
Edit to add: We regularly receive calls from Cablevision to switch back & they offer us a great deal for a one year contract. But I refuse. I begged them to give us (when we were customers) a better deal & they flat out refused.

OMG! What is included in your bundle??? That is an awesome deal!
We will pay $135/month triple play including all of the movie channels, howard stern tv, 2 boxes and a DVR free for a year. I thought that was a good deal but yours sounds a heck of a lot better!

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
The only way I would take cablevision back is if it were free. FIOS is much better, even without news 12.
The wife works for newsday and cablevsion is a bunch of thieving basterds.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I cannot imagine going back to Cablevision. I love FIOS so much.
Why? - I don't have to wait when I switch channels - I don't lose services like I use to on a constant basis - Internet is faster
I had had so much issues with CV customer service, I really could not handle going back to them.
You don't have news12 but you a local channel. Channel 1 is LI news.

I was going to say the SAME THING! we actually did because we received a CRAZY deal... we regretted it immediately. We had already purchased the hockey package with cablevision so we had to wait until that was up and as soon as it was we switched back to fios!!! NEVER EVER again!!!

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I switched back. To me it was a dollars and cents move. Anyway, the sales person is correct, there are minimal taxes with Cable.
Anyway, I think our quoted price was 93 a month for cable and we pay between 95 and 97 with taxes.
PS the switch back was SIMPLE!
ETA: IMO why not switch first Fios will leave all their equipment attached to your house so if you hate cable go back and the switch is easy. Also when I returned my boxes back to FIOS they offered me $70 a month, not sure what that included. (I am guessing it was before equip charges)
Also I never had issues with Cablevision really and loved FIOS but to me its all about the same, and I am home all day as a SAHM.
There are things I like better about FIOS but I am saving $50 a month....thats enough of a reason for me to deal with a few annoyances.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I switched back from Verizon last month. Make SURE you tell them that they have to give you free installation and porting or no deal!
I actually had the WORST time ever with Fios the first time I had them and still went back to them when I was offered to change at reduced cost.
I am not brand loyal to any cable provider.. I am loyal to my wallet and I go where I get the most bang for my buck.
Our bill is about 109 for everything.. with tax it comes to only about 115.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
I had a 2 year contract with Verizon at the intro price but after a year ended it went back to regular price. They told me the deal is only good for one year and after the first year it goes up to think $110 and I had to talk them down to $99.
When I moved they kept on shutting off my service on the day I would call to set up a date for our new service at our house.
The told me that I could have one true bill but that was a lie too!
They would give me stations without permission and charge me for them.

Re: NEED opinions/HELP...Fios vs. switching back to Cablevision
We switched back - we're saving a substantial amount each month. It was exactly what the person who came to our door (who just sold us our new washer/dryer at PC Richards) told us it would be (I don't have the bill handy so I can't give the exact amount).
I prefer Cablevisions telephone features but, I do miss FIOS.
