Need opinions on this idea for my kitchen...
So, this is a picture of my kitchen as it is right now. Whatever, it'll be done soon, and when it is, I have an idea for it. I'd like to put two benches with storage under them into the corner, then have a round table to make it kind of like a booth. We had a serving cabinet thingy in the kitchen, but it's so big and bulky that I don't want it in there anymore. Can you picture what I'm talking about? Does anyone think that'll work? I want something more unique than just a table and chairs and something that will be a good use of the space. Honest opinions! TIA!

Like a breakfast nook? I love that idea. I've never seen it with round though--but if you are buying separate pieces you could do it.
My friend actually has a church pew in her kitchen & it looks really good--like it is built in.
My only concern is the baseboard heat that you have. Can you put storage benches in front of that?

See? This is why I bounce my idea off you girls! Maybe I can just do regular benches. I found a couple of cute ones.

I would put the benches at a 90 degree angle rather than across from each other...it will open up the space. it looks like its a little tight in that area

Ok, since Im and HGTV addict. They had this issue on the kitchen show. The couple wanted a nook but had the baseboards. So they built the nook with storage benches and put like a (you know the vents on the floor for heat) well they put those on the benches in the front with a really cute 'grill' and it looked great and they could still get the heat they needed. The storage was built above the baseboards. It looked good.

i saw this!!
rachel i also like the idea of putting the benches at a 90 degree angle (not sure if that is what you meant to do) and get a square pub table. you lose space with a round table.

I know this isn't your style, but Ballard Designs always shows round tables with bench or banquette seating. I love the look and I think you can pull it off with something less custom

Love this idea for your kitchen. Here are some pics I came across to give you some more ideas. And great idea about the vents for the heating.
Ignore the carpet, I was just looking at the storage part and that it's away from the wall. link
Maybe something like this on a smaller scale.

Re: Need opinions on this idea for my kitchen...
You could do soemthing liek this, from Ballard Designs, where there is storage, but it is on feet, so there is clearance for the heat.
This is just a bench, which sounded like what you wanted to do, but if you look for "banquettes" & "breakfast nooks" you will see pieces meant for corners, so they might fit together better.

I WANT THIS! I LOVE BENCHES /NOOKS, but when i was looking for something a few years ago (5?), there was very little out there. i think that there is much more out there now then there used to be.
the only problem i see with the picture posted is spillage! i have two little kids, i wonder if they can come off to wash?

Re: Need opinions on this idea for my kitchen...
The problem with a round table, and straight benches is that the end seats on the benches will be very far from the table. Yes, it looks pretty in staged photos, but just think about it logistically. People are either going to be a foot away from the table, or someone's going to have the table digging into their gut so the end people can reach the table.

That's a great point, and I did think about that. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that it will be seating for a max of 4 people and I'd like to do 2 chairs on the outside, so realistically, only one person would be sitting on a bench at a time. We have a large dinging room for when we have guests. But, since are such a voice of reason, I am definitely going to give it some more thought
