Need sleeping/feeding schedule advice

Ok please help me out here. This is Anthony's current "schedule": (he is going to be 5 mos on the 17th)

7-8am ~7oz bottle
11-12 ~ 6oz bottle
4-5 pm ~ 6oz bottle
8pm ~ baby food 1/2 jar
10:30 pm ~ 7-8 oz bottle

* all bottles have cereal in them 1tsp per oz formula

My goal is to move his bedtime a little earlier. Hw do I do this without reducing the amount of formula he takes?

*** I also want him to sleep until at least 7am

*** I am also supposed to be giving him 3-4 oz water per day (which doesn't usually happen)

Any advice?Chat Icon

Re: Need sleeping/feeding schedule advice

according to the experts, he's not getting enough sleep at night. He should be sleeping anywhere from 11-12 hours at night.

What are his naps like during the day?

*I usually give ds a sippy cup of water in it right after he has some solids.

ETA: he's taking in the right amount of formula and moving his bedtime up, shouldn't make a difference. But gradually move his bedtime up 15 minutes earlier, every couple of nights.

This is how I would do it too.

When we first did CIO with Ryan we started the "bedtime" routine about 8. So he was in bed by 9. I slowly started doing it earlier and earlier. And right now he is going to bed about 7:45 up around 7:30.

He will take it, but not as much. Instead of 6oz, he will take 4-5 and it throws him schedule off a bit.

He is *usually* an incredible napper (3-4 hrs 3x day), but the past 2-3 days I have been callin ghim MR. No-NAp. (1-2 hrs 2x day)

WOW he is napping a lot for a 5 month old!!!

It's probably because he's not getting enough sleep during the night. For a 5 month old, he should be napping for a total of 3-5 hours a day.

If you adjust his schedule/routine, i'd bet he eat more during the day and go to bed earlier.

Re: Need sleeping/feeding schedule advice

Ok. Any suggestions on exactly how to adjust it? I know he will kinda dictate it, but a guideline? He has been napping alot less for the past few days... wanting to eat sooner, but taking lesser amounts. I am so confusedChat Icon

Re: Need sleeping/feeding schedule advice

I would move up the 4-5 bottle by an hour and then move everything after that up also.

Sorry i hope you didn't take offense to what i said. It probably didn't come out the way i mean. Chat Icon

Like Julz said, i would push up the 4 bottle to 3pm and then feed him again at 6pm.

Now with the solid feeding, you have to make sure that the solid foods don't replace the formula intake. Going from 4/5 to 10:30 without a bottle is a long time for a 5 month old. Normally for my ds, i'll feed him solids an hour after a bottle. That way it's more of a snack then anything. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh geeze, no way did I take offense. You didn't say anything wrong at all, why would I?? Sorry if I came off that way. Thank you sooo much for the helpful advice. I didn't know that solids were not supposed to replace a bottle. I am that clueless!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just checking. Chat Icon Sometimes it's hard to tell on here so i'd rather be safe than sorry. Chat Icon

As your ds gets older, the amount of ounces he drinks may decrease, but that's not for quite a few months.

I would decrease the ounces at night, add in an extra bottle in the 4-10pm time frame and see what happens.

Let me know. I'll be wondering... Chat Icon
