need some menu ideas for small house party
I am having DS' party at my house. There will be many more adults than children there, and there will be over at dinnertime. I would like some ideas as to what I can serve. A few caveats - my place is small, so people will be walking around or in living room, etc. with the food, so I don't want it to be too messy. I don't mind having the oven on, but it will warm up my house, so I don't want it to be on all day. And I don't want heros =). Any thoughts? Thanks!

Do you have a crock pot? I would definitely make something in there, you can serve it right from the pot, Maybe pulled pork or chicken with rolls to eat it with? If not maybe, chili, chicken cacciatore?
taco bar
swedish meatballs and noodles
pasta with vodka sauce... sauce can be made in advance and you can just warm it on the stove and then boil the pasta and serve
A tray of baked pasta (shells, ziti)

shish kabobs? they are easy to eat with one hand. You could mix it up with chicken, beef, veggies, etc.

Right now, I'm up in the air. I want to save money, so making food will probably be best.
Thanks for the responses so far! I just got a crock pot and have yet to use it. So I have to think about that, though it's a great idea!

What about a BBQ theme?
Pulled pork, Mac & cheese, potato salad, baked beans - the pork & baked beans you can do in the crock pot.
