Need some table food ideas

Okay, I am slowly trying to get my DD to eat more table foods. So far, this is what she enjoys:
grilled cheese (with turkey/chicken sliced cold cuts)
pasta (fiori) with sauce
cheese
puffs
chicken nuggets

I have tried other things, but she isn't interested. She has finally started feeding herself when I put things on her tray, so it's getting easier.

Any other suggestions for easy, starter table foods?

BTW, I have tried sauteing veggies, and she has ZERO interest. I need some ideas Chat Icon

Re: Need some table food ideas

How old is she? I'm SO glad you wrote this! I need ideas too! DS is almost 11 months and I mostly just give cheese, puffs or bread after his jar food. I've tried giving him some of our dinner when I made chicken a la king (chicken in a sauce over rice) and a beef stew type meal in the crockpot - both of which I cut up very small.

DD is ten months old. I saw your other thread and figured I'd ask, too! Glad to see I'm not the only one having a problem Chat Icon

Re: Need some table food ideas

So how do you do grilled cheese with meat? Make it, cool it, then cut into little pieces?

Let's see....DD is 10 months and eats everything we eat. Soups and stews are great. She loves veggies, so I giver her cut up carrots, sttring beans, peas, etc. She also loves waffles! I just make them softer and not so toasted. I also cut up a lot of fruit for her - cantaloupe, bananas, strawberies, blueberries, & apples. Dr. Praegers makes "littles" - they are kind of like nuggets - but vegatables. DD loves the spinach ones.

I use whole wheat bread and put a slice of american cheese and a slice of either chicken breast or turkey breast on, too. I then cook it on a pan on the stove with VERY little butter. I let it cool for a few minutes and then cut into very small pieces. SO easy and DD goes CRAZY for it!
I figure she's getting some meat too, so why not?!

Thanks for the suggestions!
DD still hasn't really mastered chewing harder foods, so I need to make sure they're on the softer side. I will definitely try waffles. Do you put a little syrup on them?

Re: Need some table food ideas

I am having trouble with this as well. DS was an awesome eater when it was just purees, he would eat just about anything I gave him. Now he is rejecting baby food (I think it is an independence thing) but I am concerned that I can't get him a wide enough variety of table food.

These are things he eats:

waffles - I buy organic multi-grain blueberry waffles and top with either honey or strawberry preserves. I just read that real maple syrup is better for them than honey so I will try that too
oatmeal - I use instant and cook it with soy milk and blackstrap molasses (for iron content)
home made blueberry cornmeal pancakes - I make them silver dollar size
toast with strawberry preserves
cheerios
apples cut up very small
chicken breast cut up with gravy - he loves gravy but this concerns me because of salt content, I am going to start making my own gravy from scratch.
taco meat - again I don't like the salt content, but he won't eat plain ground beef, I am going to experiment with some seasoning
ham - anyone see a salt theme here?
peas
roasted butter nut squash - I cube it and toss in flour and then bake at 475 for 8 min, flip and cook 8 minutes more.
sweet potatoes - made the same way as the squash
pasta in sauce
mashed potatoes - I make them with soy cream cheese (he is allergic to dairy)
I also roast white potatoes and "butter" them with the soy cream cheese

I have also tried (but he doesn't like) lentils, pork, beef, beans, green beans, cauliflower, carrots, peaches

I think that is it Chat Icon

I do this too, I don't cut the peas, but I did smoosh them in the beginning. Chloe is a big fan of plain steamed veggies. Green beans are her favorite. Who would have guessed.

cheese
mango
kiwi
pineapple

scrambled eggs

cinnamon bread

veggie burgers diced up

Dr. Praegers spinach potato pancakes and sweet potato pancakes

black beans

ditalini pasta with pesto. You could puree peas into the pesto too

No i do not smoosh them! They are so soft after being cooked. It's a great recipe. I will post it.

Re: Need some table food ideas

I also give my DD Dr. Praeger's California Veggie Burgers. I actually microwave it for 2 minutes and break into pieces and heat on the stove in chicken broth. It softens the veggie burger and makes a soup that my DD loves. Here are some of the ingredients of the veggie burger, so I know she's getting some good vegetables (Carrot, Onion, Stringbeans, Soybeans, Zucchini, Oat Bran, Peas, Spinach).

This is a great post, thanks for some great ideas!

Re: Need some table food ideas

Tried cooking a new recipe tonight that I'm going to serve DS tomorrow! My friend gave it to me. I diced up a bunch of veggies (potatoes, butternut squash, zucchini), added a little oil, chicken broth, salt and pepper, then baked (roasted) at 400 for 40 minutes.

Um...a bit of a change...I burned it. Chat Icon I think I dice things smaller than my friend. After 30 minutes things were charred, so you might wanna adjust the temp or time. Chat Icon
