Need tips for flying with my toddler

We are going on a 6 hour flight this weekend. I have flown with DD before, but she is older now and is a full on toddler!

What do you suggest for making this flight a success?

I am looking for toy/activity suggestions, as well as your thoughts on checking the car seat or putting it on the plane with her.

I am really nervous about this. We have a portable DVD player, but she is super active and we are not really flying during her nap time. So I am really worried.

I am thankful for all tips and advice. Oh and if you have tips on how to deal with a 3 hour time change I am all ears!

I bought DS his own backpack and filled it with little toys....a mini magnadoodle, and lots of dollar store toys that he had never seen before. I also put in crayons and a coloring book. TONS of snacks....seriously, whenever he started to get really antsy I have him something to eat. That worked best for us.

My DS is 3.8 and we just got back from the DR on Monday...

For him we bought Wikki Stix ( like Bendaroos, they are awesome !), sticker books and head phones ( he watched the movie on the plane) We never even had to break out the DVD player Chat Icon ...Also snacks ...Not sure which airline you are flying with, but American now SELLS food/snacks ( only drinks were complimentary)

We didnt bother with his car-seat and he did suprisingly well, even with having no nap in almost 12 hours ...Have fun !!

We had a 5 hour flight earlier this month. Going there she was an angel. Coming back, not so much. The portable DVD player was key. And she had her own seat so we had plenty of room.

Good Luck!!

I like the idea of getting a small backpack and filling it with toys- I always get new stuff for DD when we fly- and I leave it in the package 'cause for some reason she loves stuff when it's super new in the box!

Colorforms travel pack at TRU were good for us for traveling and flash cards for fun, try to make a game out of it, the best is probably the DVD and hope DC falls asleep.

Same here- plus the DVD player is awesome. DD is super active too and I will tell you BRING THE CARSEAT. She did much better with it than without it.

Re: Need tips for flying with my toddler

We're worried about the same thing. We're leaving for California on Wednesday and we're flying at 6pm. So when we arrive in CA it will be midnight. We're afraid Kaydyn is going to sleep on the plane and be totally thrown off.

We're going to bring stickers, books, stuffed animals, a puzzle, movies, and snacks to hopefully keep her busy through the 6 hours.

We are def bringing her car seat on the plane so that she is strapped in b/c if not then she would want to be up and down and all over the place.
