Neighbor called town. Can I find out who? - update

I live in town of Babylon. We were on vacation and found out that someone called the town claiming that our grass was 8" tall. It wasn't, but it was pretty tall (maybe 6"). I want to find out which neighbor it was. DH and I called the town office, but no one has gotten back to us. Thoughts?

So, dh called again and spoke with a very nice woman. It was an anonymous call, but she provided us with information. The person called and left a message that the house was abandoned, the lawn was overgrown, and there was an abandoned car in the driveway (dh's car as we had mine on vacation). I'd now be willing to bet it was the same person who called the car in abandoned the first time... Not like they see it parked at the house every day or anything. The woman dh spoke to said she came and checked everything out. She could tell the house wasn't abandoned and dh's car was up to date. I can't believe people. My FIL went to the house 2x a day because my cat takes medication...

I know it sucks, but legally the town is not allowed to give up that info, and for a reason. People are allowed to call police, town, state etc without the fear of being retaliated against.
If your grass is not what is reported you having nothing to fear. ALSO note it might not be a neighbor but could be anyone living in your surrounding area. Sorry.

Also, know it might not be anyone person but a civic association.

I would call back Monday- it was a holiday week, not sure if they can tell you due to confidentiality? Not sure how that works- but like seriously what a jerk neighbor. You obviously live in your house and I'm sure you probably keep it neat and clean- can't even go on vacation without a complaint from somewhere! I mean people are just getting back out there cutting grass and setting up lawn services! Whoever has time to call and complain about your grass I want their job! I would let it keep growing in spite! The nerve!

How do you know it wasn't someone like the mailman, garbage man, town worker who was in your neighborhood etc? I can't imagine why a neighbor would call knowing that you live there. I also don't think the town would even disclose to you who called.

See this is why I trust nobody

I currently live in a condo community and everyone knows everyone's business. We were told on for some crazy things and while I'll never know specifically who, it's just caused me to remain guarded and not get too friendly with my neighbors.

I'm friendly with 3 of my neighbors. I suspect it's one of 3 more. Dh got into a fight with one when he parked his car in front of our house right before a snow storm so that his side of the block would her plowed instead of ours. Then he shoveled his car out by shoveling the fire hydrant in front of our house back in after dh shoveled it out. Another neighbor is nice, but lawn guys are there 3x a week- he is meticulous. And the last was someone we also have a slight problem with because they reported dh's car abandoned. He moved it across the street to change the oil in my car and then just left it there because he used my car that day. It was on the side of their house for one day and they called it in abandoned. The police told us it was that house will called it in.

Ugh sorry you have to deal with this! What a bunch of crazies!!! My money is on the guy with the meticulous lawn! I just don't get this- you guys are obviously hard working people juggling a family work and maintaining a home! Why can't people just give people a chance to do things rather than calling the police for a car parked in front of their house for 8 hours- the funny thing is I'm sure this neighbor sees the car parked in your driveway all day! I would just keep to yourselves

It might not be the person you suspect, it can be anyone. It can be a person who walks everyday and passes your house.

I use to deal with situations like this all the time when I sat on community and civic association boards.

As much as it sucks, and I know you and your DH feel upset. Try not to assume, because, many times its not who "the suspect is"

I don't think you can find out. I don't think towns or the city can divulge the identity of complainants, no matter what the complaint is.

I guarantee that if you spoke to the right someone over there, they would tell you. We called police anonymously twice on loud, drunk neighbors who were sitting in their front yard blasting music and setting off fireworks at like 2am. Both time, the cop told them who made the call. And I never gave my name, they can tell the address the call came from and gave it right to them. It caused a lot of problems, but I now know confidential is NOT confidential.

I really do not understand a complaint like this. If it happened a lot and it was overgrown for months ok fine maybe then but for such a short period of time.

I had a neighbor put an anonymous letter in my mailbox because my curb (area in the street) was messy and I should hire a landscaper like them We are new homeowners and this was a great "welcome to the neighborhood"! I'm convinced people have nothing else better to do

It's only May 2nd. Some landscapers just finished the spring clean ups this week. calling the town was unnecessary.

We had someone call the town on us for a retaining wall that was placed when the house was built way back in the 70's. We did a reno on our backyard, during which vines that had been covering the way were removed. I guess some genius snuck into my back yard (the only way you'd ever be able to see the wall) and thought it was something we had just added.

The town actually came and argued with us, insisting that we MUST have just placed this wall. You can clearly tell by looking at it (and the plants growing through it) that it's over 30 years old, not to mention it's on the original survey. It was such a headache for us and we will never know who made the complaint (or came onto our property). I get mad all over again just thinking about it. All I can think is someone was jealous, because clearly our retaining wall, which faces a bunch of trees and no homes, wasn't hurting anyone.

if your grass was high and they THOUGHT it was at 8" I don't blame them for calling.

They SHOULD have spoken to you first.
