Absolutely say something. Your lawn will burn. Let it pee on their lawn if they’re cool w it
Not all dog pee burns lawns though. I let my dog pee on lawns when we are on walks because I know that it will not do any damage to their lawn. If it's been a few days and it hasn't turned the grass yellow it probably won't.
Every dog I’ve ever had burned the lawn. Even with giving those supplements to try and stop it. Girls, boys, didn’t matter. It’s more common they burn the lawn than don’t. Please don’t let your dog pee on peoples lawns. It’s not cool.
Totally agree. I have 2 dogs, and when I take them on walks, I NEVER let them pee on other people's lawn. It is just common courtesy. If you feel comfortable saying something, maybe catch them in the act and politely ask them to go on their own lawn. If you dont want any confrontation, I would get a sign and put it on your side of the lawn.
How do you stop your dog from peeing on people's lawns just out of curiousity? Do they pee on the street when you walk them? I can assure you my dog pees all over my backyard, not one spot of burned grass. I think that it depends on the type of dog that you have. I have an extremely small dog. It seems with bigger dogs it does seem to kill the lawn more than the little ones. There are stray cats, raccoons, possum, fox, etc. much bigger than my dog that are all over my neighborhood peeing all over everyone's lawns. If you think your lawn doesn't have animal pee all over it, you're mistaken. It would be one thing if your dog pooped and you didn't clean it up but I am sure there is animal pee everywhere.

Those are wild animals. Dogs have owners, who should know better than to let their animal pee on other people's property. That is extremely rude plus it will attract other dogs to the spot to pee also.
Well I must live in a neighborhood full of rude a** holes because we all let our animals pee whereever the hell they feel like it. You must live in a much nicer neighborhood than I do - free of dog urine on front lawns! I'm thinking you don't own a dog and if you do you must not take it for walks.
I do own a dog that I take on walks and I agree with her. It's rude, but whatever - not my neighborhood.
My neighborhood does have sidewalks, but I lived for many years in a different neighborhood with my old dog that did not have sidewalks. He either peed separately in the backyard (our walks were really for exercise anyway) or he peed right in the street.
I live on a pretty friendly block with several dog owners and no one's dog pees on anyone else's lawn at least not regularly. I really wouldn't care much if it happened occasionally - as in, we were chatting on my lawn and someone's dog pees - but if it became a habit or assumptions were made that it was ok by default I would say something.
As a side note I have no idea why some dog pee burns the grass and some doesn't. My current dog is a big goon and his pee doesn't but my old dog, a purebred half the size of my current one, basically squirted Clorox.

Yes it always baffles me as well. Like I said my dog is tiny and her pee does not burn the lawns. I actually noticed one other thing about my neighborhood today though. Almost everyone with dogs has an electric fence in their front yard so there are tons of dogs just hanging out in the front yards. there are a few we always stop to play with. Personally the electric fences scare me because I think my dog would bust through it but I am paranoid about my dog getting hit by a car.

Yes. I would say you are a rude asshole for allowing your dog to pee on other people’s property.
And if you think that is ok, I’d say you are pretty gross too.
As a matter of fact, I have two dogs, purebred Shetland Sheepdogs, that I take for daily walks, both of which do not pee on my neighbor’s lawns.
I guess common decency is beyond your comprehension. I feel bad for the people in your neighborhood.
I can’t wait until you come back on LIF and start whining that your neighbor’s dogs are peeing on your lawn and ruining it.

You know what the funny thing is - my neighbors all love me. All of them. We have a great neighborhood and everyone gets along really well. All of our dogs are free to pee all over one another's lawns. But I guess if I lived where you do I would be considered a GROSS rude ass hole! lol I do really wonder where you live as it's probably a place that I would like to avoid. Also, why did you need to mention that you have purebred dogs? Kind of weird, and no one cares!

OMG, one guy down the street just put signs on his lawn. I wish I stopped to take a pic and post it, but it has a pic of a do in a red circle . The sign says, no peeing, please be respectful.

Some people in our neighborhood have signs too, and the ones that do have dogs.
I went with my friend on a walk this weekend with her dog and thought of this post every time he peed lol.

My friend down the block has that exact sign. She has it by her mailbox on the grass by the curb. She's a dog owner herself too

Well, apparently a lot of people would like to live in my neighborhood if I told you what people paid to live here on our postage sized lots. I am sure it's not as nice as where you live though. Your neighborhood must be pristine. I'm just glad that dogs peeing on the lawn is our biggest issue, instead of say, something like voilent crimes or gun violence.

I must be one too. We specifically bought our house in a neighborhood with sidewalks so we could safely walk our dogs. We walk them for almost 2 hours a day. So there is no “not peeing” or walking in the street (you know how many times I’ve almost been hit crossing the street because people have no respect for or watch out for pedestrians. Can’t imagine if I walked in the road!) We have a lot of dog owners in our neighborhood who do the same. Like others, I wish I had time in my life to worry about a few brown spots on my front lawn. As long as you clean up your dogs poop, keep doing what you do.

To clarify, are you talking about the grass in front of your home or the grass between the sidewalk and road?
I have always been taught that it is ok to let dog pee on then grass next to the road and never to allow them on the rest of the grass. Is this not common etiquette? My dog only goes on the grass on my property but if a neighbor lets their dog go on the strip of grass I don’t mind as long as they pick up poo, they have to go somewhere.
If this was the case, I'd be fine with it but we don't have sidewalks in my neighborhood so the dog is on my grass in the the middle of the lawn. I don't allow my children to walk on my neighbors' lawns when they walk down the street so I don't see why people think it's ok for their dog to pee on it. Especially since about five house down from me there is a strip of land that no one owns that all my other neighbors walk their dogs to.

I totally agree with this. Strip next to the road, fine.. my lawn, no thank you. My neighborhood does not have sidewalks so that is not an option, but dog owners can pull them off the grass or walk in an area that is more public. I agree with the children analogy, my kids know not to run or walk on other people's lawns. I find it disrespectful and rude. I dont really understand how dog owners dont think its rude. Some people work hard on their lawns and take pride in it ..either way its their private property, and neither my kids nor anyone's dog has a right to be on it without permission. I haven't noticed any burn marks on my grass from pee but my neighbors have and they get hella pissed off when dogs pee on their lawns.

This. Strip between the street and sidewalk, fine. Otherwise, no go.
I'll also say the "But there are more important things to worry about!" argument is an empty one - a whataboutist deflection. Of course there are more important things to worry about. No one is putting this on the scale of gun violence or world hunger. There is a lot of gray area between "items of no concern" and "apocalypse level." People can say that this isn't ok in a conversation on a chatboard and then not think about it for the rest of the day. It doesn't mean anyone thinks it's the end of the world or that they are up all night over this. It's just such a silly thing to say on a chat board where we end up talking about the weirdest shit ever (pun not intended.)

We don't have sidewalks either so there is no strip of grass and to be completely technical the first 6 feet of our property is technically an easement owned by the town, not the individual property owner. So I guess TECHNICALLY my dog is peeing on town property, not individual homeowner property. Not sure if that makes a difference.
If my dog's pee burned the lawn I would definitely be more conscious of it. But it doesn't. So I am not. And maybe if I had a really large dog I would think more of it. But I don't. My dog probably pees about two tablespoons max.
Also in my neighborhood kids run all over everyone's lawns. In fact, many of the kids cut thru people's backyards. We have parks that you need to go thru certain backyards to get to and the people have signs just asking people to make sure they close the gate after they walk through!
Honestly I don't know that I could live in a place where it was commonplace for people to care this much about a lawn or their private property. Where I am, it's more about community, kids playing in the street having fun and feeling safe. Not about how green your lawn is.

Karma is a beyotch!
Ewww. Who would want to live in your neighborhood where you let dogs pee all over your lawns. Nasty!
Lmao! True! Are people sitting by the front windows to make sure no one lets their dog pee on the lawn? Wtf?

This. Strip between the street and sidewalk, fine. Otherwise, no go.
I'll also say the "But there are more important things to worry about!" argument is an empty one - a whataboutist deflection. Of course there are more important things to worry about. Unrelated to the dog topic at hand but I JUST had this conversation this morning with DH. We were taking a walk and I was stressing about all the stuff I had coming up in the next few weeks (DD's birthday, father's day, appointments, a vacation to plan and pack for etc). And he says don't stress, there are people who have cancer. Now that's something to be upset about. I was like...really?? So unless it's a deadly illness, we can't stress about anything I guess.

I guess looking at the overall picture but still things are and will be stressful to everyone and most of us stress about something all the time.
