Neocate/Elecare
So my son is on Nutraigen AA right now and it is OK except it severely constipates him. We have ben using it for 2 weeks via samples from my ped. I called my insurance tonight and they will cover Elecare or Neocate. Does anyone know the two and have a preference? Did you find one was easier on babies' stomach? Or tasted/smelled better? TIA!

It seems to be a matter of doctor preference. Ours preferred Elecare. I haven't heard of major differences, though. They both smell gross. I have heard that Elecare is easier to mix and we did not have a problem mixing it. Are you sure there will be a difference between the new Nutramigen AA and these other 2? My DS was on Mylanta in addition to Elecare. Mylanta helps them go to the bathroom and helps with other things.

Thanks-I had him on Maloxx and didn't seem to do much for him but maybe I will revisit that. There may not be a difference, but my insurance doesn't cover Nutramigen AA-only neocate or elecare.

Re: Neocate/Elecare
DD was on Neocate first for about 5 weeks and then had to be switched to Neocate.
Neocate gave her severe constipation and had to have prunes starting at 4 months and mylanta and later when she was a bit older- benefiber and prunes. We didn't do mylanta for that long because I heard it wasn't too good for them to have. In emergency situations we even had to do suppositories, unfortunately.
Neocate and Elelcare I believe are the same exact formulas but just different brands. I don't think swithching to either of these will help. Some DC are just prone to more constipation than others. Good luck though!!!

Chemically, they might be, but they do not look the same or have the same texture or color.

Re: Neocate/Elecare
My son was severely constipated on Neocate too. We had to give him prune juice and water daily to counteract it.
