New BPA question.....is anyone NOT changing their bottles?

Obviously if you already use BPA free bottles, this question does not apply, but I remember seeing the post about this situation getting blown up......

Anyone not changing thier bottles?

Like your DH I feel it is all BS. I don't heat Ella's formula in her bottles at all.

I boil her water and keep it in a large thermos so that way when we make her formula it is warm and we do not need to heat her bottles in the microwave.

Christopher is off bottles, but I think it is bs-y as well. We went through this ALLLLL last July, and DS was only 2 months old then and I STILL decided to stick with the bottles that worked for us.

And that's another thing, DS is a giant spitter and seems to be leveling off a bit. I don't want to rock the boat by giving him a n ew bottle to contend with.

I had a few drop ins so I'll alternate I guess and return the Gerbers I bought....

Not changing bottles. Lucas is down to 4 bottles a day and barely finishes them. I don't warm his bottles at all but daycare does. We only have two more months until we move to milk and that will be served cold.

So...not changing them.

I think this is us too. DS is only on 3 bottles a day and he's almost 10 months old. In 2 months we will be switching to sippy cups (I hope)

Re: New BPA question.....is anyone NOT changing their bottles?

I think I answered to a similar post on Pregnancy on this but I will not be switching bottles (even for DC #2). I have Dr. Browns and Avent. Until they are all pulled from the shelves, I will continue to use what I have. I do not heat bottles, never had (I know, mean mommy for giving DS room temp or cold bottles Chat Icon )
I will be changing nipples, of course but not the bottles.

I am not either. DD will only be on them for another 2-3 months and I can't see throwing out all my Dr Browns bottles for some new concern. Next month it will probably be something else and I can't see throwing all of them away and wasting all that money.

I know I am in the minority, but I never get all wrapped up in these "new findings". Until there is a recall, like a previous poster just said, then I will replace them.

We're not changing either, DD is 9.5 months at this point & we use Dr. Brown's. We never use the microwave to heat up & I never use the dry cycle in the dishwasher.

Re: New BPA question.....is anyone NOT changing their bottles?

I use the First Years Breastflow and DD LOVES them (after a disasterous beginning with Avent). I will NOT be changing bottles. My BM is stored in and heated up (using warm water only) in Medela bottles (which are BPA free) and I never put them in the dishwasher so I am not concerned.

I seem to remember being pregnant this time last year and the same stories about the bottles were out there. If there were such a big problem with them, why haven't they been recalled?

isn't the sterilizing them a cause for concern?

If I understand correctly (and maybe I don't) - it's heating any liquid inside the bottle that is being questioned. So if you sterilize or wash the bottle and let cool before using...it should not be an issue - at least for the issue at hand.

With all due respect do you really think that companies recall everything that is not safe? Many companies will not recall things until they are forced to. It's all about the bottom line. I am very recently pregnant and i am going to try to use BPA free products as much as I can.

That's true...not everything is recalled and I don't see a recall on this any time soon because an actual 'case' has not happened to get a response. Right now it's considered a risk.

Defintely commend your committment to BPA-free products...it will require a lot of research and lifestyle modifications so I mean it when I say that I commend your efforts Chat Icon

Unrelated to these specific responses I just want to say:
Everyone has to do what they are comfortable with...but I really do feel the need, with all these conversations going on lately, to say to each and every mom dealing with this decision right now that no matter what you decide, I, for what it's worth, know that you only act out of love for your child so please don't feel that one decision is better over another. The best one for you and your child is the one you decide.

This is what I thought too. I thought putting them in the dishwasher or boiling to sterilize was unsafe?
