How I come knew this before the CDC? Or are they trying to ease up on the scare tactics and fear mongering.
This! Lol!!!

If there is anything I learned during this pandemic, it is to not trust the CDC. They constantly change the guidelines according to available resources and social needs, not due to science.
And this! I take what they say with a grain of salt. It’s certainly not my one and only source of information. It hasn’t been for a long time already.
Don't do that!!! The CDC announced that taking things with a grain of salt is bad for your blood pressure!

At the beginning of this. They said they did not believe it was airborne, and is transmitted through direct contact with people and surfaces. I feel like they're making shit up as they go. They have no idea. Just wash your hands and practice good hygiene, and all will be well

Yes! Plus the whole thing about being contagious to others while being asymptomatic...I’m not buying it. PubMed.

I can’t listen lol. First it wasn’t airborne, then it was airborne. First they said no reason to wear a mask, then said wear a mask. I don’t think enough is known about it yet so I can’t really criticize them too much though...

I agree. I think we are so used to instant information that we can’t wrap our heads around the fact that this is a brand new illness. Things are going to change as the virus is studied further, different tests are done, etc.

I can buy the argument that it is a new virus and nobody knew anything about it and doctors and scientists are still learning. That's reasonable.
What is NOT acceptable is not knowing anything about a virus, and then making tons of claims and facts about it that you don't know are true, and then people using those "maybe and maybe not" claims to shape people's lives and behaviors and laws and what society is and isn't allowed to do.

Are there any other studies you can point to that weren't done in China? I'm a little leery of believing China as they werent quite upfront initially. I also thought that it mutated to a different strain which spread to Europe and the US than what was originally spreading in China. The strain that came here is believed to be more contagious...

Oh especially here! . I just don’t understand the need of spreading fear and distrust on everybody because supposedly everyone “might have the virus” even when they’re not displaying any symptoms, therefore...”u must wear a mask”, “u must stay 6 feet apart.” It’s not anyone’s responsibility to protect me. It’s my responsibility to protect myself and everyone should have that mentality. Why instead of passing guidelines to “protect others”, they don’t pass guidelines on how to keep our immune system working to the best of its capability, why they don’t put more emphasis on hand washing and hygiene in general, why they don’t put more emphasis on healthy habits instead of keeping fast food places open as “essential businesses”, why they don’t put more emphasis on how to keep ourselves healthy (including healthy eating habits). Don’t teach us how to protect the rest, teach us how to protect ourselves, there’s absolutely nothing selfish about that. Imagine if we all consciously take care of ourselves, then the rest of us would be safe because they would also be taking care of themselves.

1 study wont change my mind. Asymptomatic transmission is still happening. Suffolk County numbers have been higher than Nassau and while they trend downward as more tests are done, the virus is still silently spreading.
These folks were probably asymptomatic

This person linked a study apparently done in China where 455 people were exposed to an asymptomatic person and they did not get. I am wondering if there are further studies about this, perhaps not from China.

They aren't asymptomatic if they have fevers and body aches. They also say they "haven't gone anywhere" except the places they went to. Who knows who else they came in contact with. They probably came in direct contact with someone else that hasn't gone anywhere and is also "asymptomatic" lol. People lie. How many people are sniffling and feeling crappy right now and they blame allergies? Those are people that could have it but they say "but I've had no symptoms".

These people also tout how careful they were and how they followed the rules so carefully and even got themselves down to food shopping just every other week like it's some kind of contest who can leave the house the least...yet...they had their kids visiting every other weekend with a 6 month old infant! Really? A baby? And now they have the virus and probably exposed everyone including that baby. I mean come on. They have NO IDEA how they got it. No idea! Yet they had visitors in their home all the time. But no, it must have been that biweekly trip to the supermarket when you walked by someone in the dairy aisle.

I agree with this. My cousin has had the virus for about two months now. She keeps testing positive. She had all the symptoms at first and now she doesn’t. Mind you, she wasn’t able to get a test till she was feeling 100% better. In March and April they keep denying her testing. So for two weeks she has been “asymptomatic” when she was finally able to get tested.
Her kids who live with her also didn’t get it. So it’s also not 100% guaranteed you will get it if you are exposed.

No, that argument is not nearly nuanced enough. You're making it sound completely black and white when it's going to be an entire spectrum of gray and it's going to move back and forth.
It's going to be fluid for a very long time and the control freaks of this country can't handle it and need to be patient. We have to work collectively to figure this out rather than keep looking at it like an A B C D issue. That's where the disconnect is. We can't agree how to tackle it.

Re: New CDC...I guess they changed their minds
It's literally the way science works that e enter an UNKNOWN problem by putting the people with the most training and education at the forefront and accept that not all predictions will pan out as society figures things out.
Asymptomatic transmission has been proven.
Unscrupulous, scummy people who want to go out and be among people when they 100% know that they have symptoms, or even know they have the virus are also not only a proven thing, but a pervasive thing. This will continue to happen, At stores, gatherings, schools, colleges, any place that someone without regard for others wants to be.
And I don't know anyone was EVER ok with the idea that only the old and sick would die--that's not ok--but that's not even true. Healthy people in their 30s and 40s are dying every day. And people who don't die recount MONTHS of agony, torture, and neverending complications and long term effects.
Reopening pursuant to guidelines that correspond with reality is one thing. The rage, selfishness, and denial that fills society now is quite another.

Agreed. I think it’s misinformed to say that they were making stuff as they were going along. Scientists tried to study a new virus that we didn’t know about and made the most educated decisions at the time to guide public health decisions. As new information was discovered, policies changed. What is wrong with that? In reality, we all though the virus was coming from China when it was really Europeans traveling through NY who most likely brought it here. But at the time we didn’t know.
