Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!

I see a lot of you have scheduled your level II already! How exciting! I am going to call next week to schedule mine. I am 14.5 weeks now, do any of you feel like you aren't really gaining any weight? When should I really be starting to gain weight? I am eating healthy not because I don't want to gain but for the baby (eating fruits and veggies and cheese and crackers, yogurts for snacks) plus I don't even really feel like eating junk food. I think I gained like 1 or 2 pounds so far...but I lost 6-7 pounds in the first trimester.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!

I was really sick my first trimester and lost 14 lbs. I've lost another 2 this trimester. I'm 15 W.......I'm not too concerned yet. My appetitie has come back and i'm eating. I'm plus size to begin with so I can afford to loose the extra weight.

I wish that i hadnt gained any weight. I have gained 10lbs already, but i started off on the small side. I am 15 weeks and my level II is scheduled for Sept 25.
As far as the junk food is concerned, I LOVE IT. i know it is terrible, but i have cravings for doritos, hamburgers, cheese fries and gravy and all kinds of sweets. maybe that is why i have gained 10lbs! i am also eating healthy as much as possible. fruits and veggies galore.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!

Ok I scehduled my 20 week appt for Oct 6th. I'm confused though. I get a regular sono that appt and meet with the doctor. I asked about the level II and they said they don't do that at the office. Do I have to go somewhere else to get it done, even though I have a sono that day? What does a level II check? Do you think I can find out the sex at the regular sono? I am assuming so.

Also does a Level II have to be done at 20 weeks or can you wait a few more weeks to get it done?

We did the ultrascreen at 12 weeks at the hospital where I'll be delivering with a tech, but I also had a regular 12 wk checkup with my OB at her office where they took my BP and I gave a urine sample, we did them the same day.....so maybe you'll have both too.

They call it an anatomy scan out here and I needed to schedule it between 18-22 weeks at an outside place as well. It checks for any abonormalities like spina bifida or limb problems.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!

I'm so upset right now....

I had my AFP/Quad screen Monday morning. My doctor said we would talk about the results at my 18 week appointment. Instead, I just got off the phone with her.

I'm an older mom to be.. so initially, my downs ratio was 1:157 prior to any testing. My ultrascreen came back with results 1:857 which are very good for my age. My PAPP-A came back on the low side but she wasn't too concerned with that. At my 14 week appoitnment my DH and I talked about our concerns re: the AFP/Quad screen especially about the false positive rate. We went through he!! to get pregnant - 2 years, many fertility treatments, miscarriage, etc... I know there tends to be a high percentage of false positives for IVF women. Anyway, my Dr. just called me and my downs ratio went from 1:857 to 1:191. For various reasons I'm not going to discuss, we do not want to do an Amino. My Dr. suggested moving my Level II up to week 18 instead of 20, and also move my appointment up with the genetic counselor as well. Depending on the Level II findings, we'll then make the decision whether or not to do the Amnio. I'm freaking out and very upset right now. I'll love this child no matter what, but after all we went through to get pregnant, I just wanted a normal and as worry free a pregnancy as possible. Chat Icon

I wish the best for you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Sometimes I feel all these tests make us worry for unnessecery reasons when most likely everything is fine. My mom was telling me that she only had one sono and hardly any blood work done when she was pregnant with me. I know many of the tests are very beneficial for us and our child, but we can't help to worry is everything ok, what does this mean? Is that normal? Very stressful! My prayers are with you! I'm so sorry you are going through this...its hard enough all you have gone through to get here and now this..I know its easy to be more worried than relaxed, but please please try to keep things in perspective and know that there are such high false rates with these tests and keep as positive as possible...I know...easier said than done...we're all here for you and praying for you and we will keep those positive vibes flowing your way. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Remember the Doc said lots of False positives come from this test. Alot of moms on the parenting board have said they got Positive readings and were told their baby had downs, then when the baby was born they didnt... This is the reason I didnt even want the test done but my doctor insisted we have done.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!

Went for our AFP bloodwork yesterday.. talk about a nerve racking apponitment, I saw the PA.

First she stuck me with the needle and was digging like crazy b/c she missed it, the drive home my hand and arm kept going numb and falling asleep.. that was a weird feeling.
Then the nerve wracking part she couldnt find the babys heartbeat with the doppler.. which I started to get a bit freaked out b/c with my dd they always found right away. It turned out this little baby implanted far down on the right of my uterus, PA said thats were a major vein ran and was over powering the sound of the babys heartbeat. So happily we got to hear the heartbeat.. what a relief.

We go back in 2 weeks for 16wk ckup and results of all the downs testing... which I dont trust these results so no matter what the doc tells me, no amino for me and baby staying were he/she is..

Still at same weight, didnt gain anymore of the weight I lost back, they seem happy I guess b/c I didnt loose more.

HOpe all is well with everyone!
