Re: new home tax credit

We closed 2/27/09 but we had done our taxes already. After we closed, I was able to file an amendment and got the $8000 right away.

We closed in February 2010 already got our $8K. We filed an amendment to 2009's taxes.

You need the 1040X to amend your 2009 tax return and the 5405 to prove you bought the house.

You'll get your $8K in about 2 months. Chat Icon

IRS actually says 3 months (while it may come sooner, that's what they say), and to the OP you can amend you 09 or claim it on your 2010 return, but its not neccessary to wait till 2011 to claim it on the 2010 return
