New Kitten - Need some training ideas

We just got a new kitten about two weeks ago. She's approximately 8-9 weeks old and keeps nipping at our hands. I've tried a few things I read online about getting her to stop but it just seems like it's getting worse!

Any suggestions?

Re: New Kitten - Need some training ideas

When we got our kittens (who are already 1 and 2yrs old!) they told us to not use our hands/fingers as toys. They said if they go for our fingers, to always have a toy on hand and say, "no!" and give them the toy to bite instead.

My 2yr old is VERY well behaved, she's an AMAZING cat. My 1 yr old is still in his "kitten" stage and can get nippy when he's playing, but I think he'll grow out of it. Good luck with your new kitty!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also, we got A LOT of help from the behavior specialists at North Shore Animal League when our cats didn't get along at first. See if there's someone where you got them who could offer you more advice, if it becomes a bigger problem!

I 100% agree with the PP, do not let the kitten use your hands to "play". This is a mistake we made with our kitten and he still bites lol.

It's hard to not use your hands with a kitten though, because they are so small and dont really hurt. But trust me it will pay off Chat Icon
