NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
Hi Everyone,
My daughter Chloe is 3 weeks old tomorrow. I am having the time of my life, despite having some refluz issues with her. She is now on Nutramagen and doing much better.
I am sitting here with some questions in my mind about various topics and was hoping for some advice.
Thanks in advance:)
1. The bundle me I have is SOOO big, you cannot close it or it would suffocate her. What do you Mom's do? Just fold it on here? It seems to fall down.
2. What medicines should new Mom's have in the house, I forgot to ask my Pede this question. For instnace, for a fever, cold, stomach, etc. What are the safe recommended ones?
3. What is considered average temperatre for an infant and when is it considered a fever?
4. What age do you give your child a blanket in their crib? My babies hands always seem cold (even though I was told to check the back of her neck and that is warm). Pur heat in her room is so-so and I do dress her in a sleeper sac over her pajamas. I am always questioning if she is cold at night.
** I will stop here (for the moment)
Thanks SOOO very much!
Keri

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
I'm not sure about the bundle me because I don't have one yet, but I have seen moms fold it down.
The only meds I have in the house for DS are infant tylenol and infant mylocon. The dosages are on the box.
Anything over 100.5 is considered a fever.
I put a blanket in with DS right now and tuck it in VERY tight onthe sides and only put it 1/2 way up (to his belly). You may want to look into a swaddle me. I find it to be very effective. GL!

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
1. The Bundle Me is big. The only time I put it up was if I was taking her out in her infant seat and it was windy or raining. If not I would fold it down so her head was out and I made sure it was folded down in the car also.
2. The only medicine I had when she was that young was Infant Tylenol and Little Tummies gas drops. I don't believe you can use anything else on newborns.
3. As PP said 100.5 and above is considered a fever
4. DD still does not have a blanket. She is a very restless sleeper and she would end up being wrapped in it. Before 6 months we used the Swaddle Me and now we put her in fleece PJs. Her hands do get cold, but as long as her trunk is warm (her back and neck) then she is ok.

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
1. My DD was born in April, so I have no real advice for you here. I would warm up the car and bring her out with a blanket covering her in the infant carrier instead. Unless you have a far trip from your home to car I doubt you need the bundle me right now. It will come in handy soon.
2. At this age most pediatricians will not recommend you give them anything. I did however have the following in the house: Infant Tylenol, Infant Mylicon, Little Tummies Grip water, Saline Nasal Spray, Bulb Aspirator and Thermometer.
3. An infant's temperature is typically a bit higher especially since you are taking it rectally. Anything over 100.4 rectally is considered to be a fever. Temperatures vary by thermometer used.
4. Have you tried the pjs that close to cover their hands or maybe putting mittens on her? I would not suggest a blanket in the crib for quite some time.

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
1. I don't have a bunde me yet so I can't help you here.
2. We have Mylicon, Infant Tylenol, Little Tummys Gripe Water, Little Noses Stuffy Nose Kit (saline drops and an aspirator), and Little Tummys Gas Relief Drops). DD is 5 months old and these are the ones we've used. The Little Remedies line is awesome.
3. Good Question.
4. Babies have poor circulation in their hands and feet, so their hands will feel cold even if they aren't. But DD's hands are always cold and I feel so bad so I put the no-scratch mittens on her at night to keep them warm.

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
1. -No experience with the bundle me...
2. Tylenol and Babybliss Gripe water was all we used. A thermometer and aspirator are good to have on hand.
3. My pedi said that newbies temps are most accurate when taken rectally, and anything over 100.4 would be a temp.
4. I used a blanket with my guy from the getgo, but I swaddled him. The miracle blanket was probably the easiest swaddle blanket I used, but I swaddles with normal receiving blankets too. Kept the baby snug, and helped him sleep!

Re: NEW MOM and NEED ADVICE/TIPS FROM CURRENT MOMS ABOUT...
1. The bundle me I have is SOOO big, you cannot close it or it would suffocate her. What do you Mom's do? Just fold it on here? It seems to fall down.
DD is 4 months old and I use the bundle me every day now that the weather is changing. I fold it up while going to the car and fold it down while in the car.
2. What medicines should new Mom's have in the house, I forgot to ask my Pede this question. For instnace, for a fever, cold, stomach, etc. What are the safe recommended ones?
Tylenol is safe for newborns (not sure the dosage), also Mylicon drops for gas. I think that's about it.
3. What is considered average temperatre for an infant and when is it considered a fever?
I believe anything of 100 is considered a fever for a newbie.
4. What age do you give your child a blanket in their crib? My babies hands always seem cold (even though I was told to check the back of her neck and that is warm). Pur heat in her room is so-so and I do dress her in a sleeper sac over her pajamas. I am always questioning if she is cold at night.
Alexis had a blanket in her crib from day one. Now that the weather is colder, she has 2 blankets. She sleeps on her side and she's fine. She sleeps all night, but I do check on her periodically.
