New Mom needs help-Question for those that breastfeed but also occasionally pump

Right now I am breastfeeding and it is going well. But I would really like to start pumping so that maybe my DH can do one feeding a day. Also I would like to start saving some to freeze in case I decide to stop for any reason or for when I go back to work. So how exactly do I do the pumping? Do I pump before or after I feed, or do I do it at a completely different time of day? Also if my DH does the one feeding a day, do I still have to be pumping at that same time so that my breasts don't fill up, or will I be okay to just skip that feeding. I still want to mainly do regular breastfeeding but didn't know how often I could pump to start a freezer storage, I don't want to make my milk overly come in.

As you can see I am lost on this subject, so any strategies on how you do it would be great!!

I am no expert but with my dd, I would pump after every feeding....even if you are not getting milk right away, your body will start producing more the more you pump

I think 5 minutes on each side after every feeding is a good start Chat Icon

I'd pump after the first morning feeding b/c that's usually when your supply is best. I'd pump for 15 minutes per session. If DH feeds DC, I'd still pump during that time b/c if you skip a feeding, it could affect your supply. Chat Icon
