New Mommy here
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Maria, I gave birth to my daughter Alexa on February 14, 2009 Valentine's day!
I was planning a homebirth and after 42 hours of labor at home I was diagnosed with a rare condition (hypertonic uterine contractions) Basically I was contracting every 2-3 minutes with the contractions lasting 1-2 minutes long for MY ENTIRE LABOR!! I was basically in transition for 3 days and my contractions weren't dilating my cervix.
I made the decision to transfer to the hospital where after receiving an epidural my body was finally able to relax some and my water broke naturally and my contractions finally normalized and started dilating my cervix. I was fortunate to not need any medical intervention after the epidural.
My epidural was great for the first few hours but I was not numb below my bikini line. So basically I didn't feel the contractions coming but I felt all teh pressure and I FELT EVERYTHING when I was pushing. It was even more difficult for me mentally to deal with this because after having been in labor for 3 days and in so much pain I was mentally unable to handle the pain of childbirth, also my daughter came out with her hand on her cheek which made everythign more painful and caused me to tear......
I was pretty traumatized after my whole labor experience and dissapointed in myself. I know everyone says to just be happy you have a healthy baby but I am terrified to get PG again and have to face childbirth which is dissapointing since I wanted 3 kids. I am seeing a counselor to try and work through my issues and hopefully I will be able to post my entire birth story some day.... there is soooo much more to it.
I am absolutely in love with my little Lexi. She is a pure joy and a truly wonderful baby.

i understand that you had a difficult birth experience, and i am so sorry for that but your daughter is PERFECT and gorgeous and i hope you eventually decide to have more children - it seems a shame to let those good genes go to waste
many many  for you, i hope you are able to work through it!

Oh she is pure joy! Look at that perfect face!!! All the best Maria!
On a side note: it hasn't even been a month yet, you still need to mentally heal from it all. Give your self time okay! Please don't be so hard on yourself! You and your Dh made a master piece.

Sorry to hear that you had such a hard labor. Congrats on your beautiful daughter. I'm sure looking at her makes you realize how all the pain was worth it....look at your reward!!! Enjoy her!

She is beautiful! My baby weighed the exact same and was the same length..i ended up with a C section though!!

Congrats on your adorable little girl. I can really understand what you are feeling but I have a feeling your fears may melt away in time as you enjoy your little girl and realize next time may be different. But even if it's not, you will make it through as you did this time and have another bundle of joy to focus on. At least, this is what I  for you.
I think you are doing the right thing by seeing a counselor. Hopefully they will be able to talk you through it all.

Congratulations and Welcome Mommy!
Your DD is gorgeous.. what a cutie
I'm sorry you had a difficult L&D experience Take the time you need to deal with your feelings and don't be so hard on yourself. And know that it will get better as time goes on...
In the meantime enjoy your beautiful girl

I know you had your heart set on water birth.. I remember your posts from the preggo board.
I also know it sux when things do not go as planned..I totally was against getting a c-section. But after 14 hours and 2 failed epidurals, I had to have an emergency C. I felt so upset, and like I exposed DS to drugs unnecessarily because the epi's failed and I felt EVERYTHING. I was really upset, and didn't think I would get over the trauma..and I was also doubting having more kids after going thru that.
Everyone kept telling me that I would forget the pain one DS was here. I didn't  But it now seems like a distant, foggy memory...so hopefully after a few more months, I will forget.
In any case, you too need time to heal and get over it. You're not a failure. The birthing process is the one thing we have no control over, and that's the hardest part. In the end, it's all about what is best for DC.
Here's some hugs in the meantime..it will get easier.
