I pumped at the beginning when he would fall asleep after feeding off only one boob. I'd pump the other side. Once he got closer to 8 weeks and was sleeping longer at night I was able to pump before I went to bed and sometimes if I woke up in the middle of the night. (Because your breasts will want to explods when she starts sleeping through the night.) By about 3-4 months my breasts regulated at night and I was able to pump here and there through the day and at work.
ETA: Don't be discouraged by the amount you pump in the beginning. I could rarely pump a total of 2 oz from BOTH boobs the first few weeks.

I already feel SO engorged sometimes, but I guess it's best to wait a few weeks to pump? I mostly want to build a supply for DH and MIL for when I go back to work or when I need to go out, etc.

Congrats and welcome!!! I EBF and what I did was pump after I fed DD for the first time each morning b/c that is when your milk supply is greatest. This helped me build up a HUGE freezer stash! I am back at work full time and am still EBFing (I pump at work) - so hopefully I can be of some help to you!! Enjoy that precious little girl as time goes so quickly!!
