Re: new mommy needs help

I have heard many new moms with the same problem. I swear I've heard them say they try a swing, the carseat, the bouncer, something under the mattress to slightly raise it. I know they've said that it can't be done permanantly, but maybe for a few weeks, until you can officially talk with the doctor.

Hope it gets better. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i think many mommies of babies with reflux elevate the baby's mattress at the head. i'm not sure exactly how they do it, though, sorry Chat Icon .

i would call your pediatrician in the morning, but in the meanwhile, have the baby sleep upright (like in the swing or bouncy seat).

Re: new mommy needs help

My DS had reflux and I elevated the mattress of his cradle by putting a 2 inch 3 ring binder under the mattress. I imagine this would work in a bassinet, or even a pack-n-play, but probably not in a crib. you could also try putting rolled up towels under the mattress to elevate it, just make sure not to elevate too much so dc slides down. HTH, good luck!

Re: new mommy needs help

thanks ladies I was told though not to keep her in a chair because she is too little (just 6 pounds now) we elavated the portacrib and put rolls under her feet. I now have her laying in the boppy pillow but I am afraid that she will sleep with her chin to her chest she is on an apnea monitor so I guess it should be OK if she should have a problem and we are goling to the pediatrician in a few hours anyway thanks for your suggestions

And your DC should NOT sleep in the carseat!

Re: new mommy needs help

They sell a wedge for the crib....I have one if you wanted to pick it up in the city....

However, they also sell this at BRU

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2763843

In addition, one of my twins slept in the car seat for about a month. When I told the dr. she said it was okay because he was rotated throughout the day (with being held, stroller, basinet, playmat etc....)

I say, if she is sleeping in the bouncy, then leave her...better to have her sleep then not and be really fussy....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We had G sleep in the car seat for a few nights, then the Pediatrician recommended a wedge to go under the mattress/platform.Chat Icon

I just said I had heard other moms have done it temporarily, until they can talk with the dr. I was trying to offer middle of the night suggestions to get her through.

I put DS in his crib ontop of the Boppy pillow for a while. I would lay a blanket on top of the Boppy so he wouldn't fall through and it was enough elevation for him to sleep comfortably.

Inclined to sleep positioner works great! It's a wedge and a positioner all in one.

Re: new mommy needs help

i got bed lifts to put under one side of my portacrib, so my dd was sleeping propped up. it works well, you can get the lifts at bed bath and beyond. they come in different heights too.

Re: new mommy needs help

You can also roll up a bath towel and put in under one of the mattress ends to make the incline.

Re: new mommy needs help

I was at the ped yesterday and he feels my DS has a little reflux. He hates his crib and sleeping flat so he has been sleeping in his swing. I asked my ped about it and he said it was fine, that he probably prefers not sleeping flat on his back. Hope you find something that works for her Chat Icon
