New mommy needs help about poop....please
My DS is 1 week old today, up until now he has had no problem going poop, about 3-4 times per day. Now he has not gone since yesterday, over 24 hours. He is formula fed.
Should I be concerned? He does have tons of gas but doesn't seem uncomfortable. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this is all new to me.
TIA

Re: New mommy needs help about poop....please
DD was formula fed as well. We had a brief period where she hadn't pooped as well. Her pediatrician wasn't concerned at that point, as long as she was urinating regularly. I think she went 2 days - maybe 3 at times but I can't remember that well if it went that long.

Since he is so young I would call the Ped. At the hospital this happened to my DD (she was on BF) and the nurse said as long as she was passing gas from bottom it was a good sign becuase it meant that there was movement in the intestinal tract.

No problem! Never feel embarassed to call the Ped, I know I have in the past (my DD is 4 and a half months old) but hey its their job! Its probably nothing and on the bright side they may give you remedies to try or give you more direction on how to help him go.

Re: New mommy needs help about poop....please
After we came home from the hospital, DS didnt poop for 3 days. I calld the ped who said it was probably just his "learning" how to push it out....She said I coudl use the "thermometer trick" if I thought we was uncomfortable, but I had h is 2 week appt the next day so we could just wait it out...He pooped 2x hte next day and has been quite regular since!

I wouldn't worry too much if he doesn't seem uncomfortable. Formula fed babies don't always poop every day.

Re: New mommy needs help about poop....please
call your ped for advice... but this is the advice I received from my ped office:
Eryk both breastfeeds and is supplemented with formula. he occassionally strains and has gas (but the poop is never dry, so technically he's not constipated)
they said to add some prune juice to his bottle (we were allowed up to 1 oz prune to 2 oz formula, but we never exceeded 1/2 oz in 4 oz of formula)..... It did the job every time. straining gone, he poops and is comfy.
