New moms & weight loss motivation
Just wondering how all the moms of newborns are doing with weight loss. I said I would be more committed to starting and exercise routine after my 6wk appt but I had to cancel it due to AF last week. So, I'll start getting on track next week (appt is Wednesday).
Any new moms want to start a little support circle?
I'll confess to having gained 50+lbs (probably about 55lbs total) plus I was up almost 10lbs from my first pg which ended in miscarriage and stopping smoking when I was TTC. So, let's just say I was on the higher end of my weight range when I got pg with Ryan.
So, up let's say 55lbs. I am 6wk2d postpartum and down 37lbs. I would like to lose 20 more by DS's baptism in late June.
How are other moms doing?

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
Funny you should post this...I was little depressed yesterday because I went shopping for the first time since having DS 4 weeks ago.
I have showers and baptisms, and such to attend in the next weeks and have nothing to wear! On a regular day I wear yoga pants and sweats and sometimes my maternity jeans, but I need some nice clothes for special occasions. I can't wear my nicer maternity clothing since it is all for the winter. I am 2-3 sizes bigger in the stores I usually shop in. But my problem is my legs and butt are their pre-pregnancy size (I was all belly), but my belly is where the extra weight is. So if I go up a size to try to fit my belly better, the butt and legs look ridiculous cause they are so big!
I gained 33 pounds and have lost all but 8 pounds which I know will take exercise to get off. It seems that 8 pounds is the "above and beyond" weight. I can't wait for my 6 week appointment in 2 1/2 weeks so I can get the okay to begin running again. I am trying to watch what I eat until then!

WHEN you get thin again - not IF... Motivation i Right now I still wear my maternity jeans and pretty much nursing tanks with an open cardigan since I can't get any shirt over my chest these days.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I have the same problem shopping with the belly issue. I actually lost all my baby weight plus some but my shape is so different that I still don't really fit into my old clothes. I have this spare tire stomach that is making buying clothes so difficult because my legs and butt went back to normal. I have been exercizing but I just feel like I am getting nowhere. I want a tummy tuck!!!!!

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I have been terrible. I swore I would work my a$$ off after my 6 week pp apt and I have done squat. I am now 10 weeks pp. I would love to lose another 25lbs.
eta: I am having the hardest time finding clothes that fit, my shape is very akward right now and finding clothes to wear is near impossible.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I'll join!
I am 5 weeks PP and gained 50 pounds When I got pregnant I was at my lowest weight ever (I had just lost 20 pounds and felt so good about myself. I have lost 26 pounds so far and seems to be at a halt.
I go to the dr. on Monday, and plan to start pilates and faster walking then. I started to watch my eating and joined sparkpeople.com again 1 week ago (this is how I lost the weight before) but it seems that this time it is going to take a lot more work.
I am now 3 sizes larger than I was which is so depressing and nothing fits. I don't want to buy new clothes because I think it is motivation for me to work harder. I am hoping to be able to at least fit into my "heavier" clothes in about 3 weeks and would love to loose it all when I go back to work in September.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I gained about 28 pounds during the whole pregnancy and am 3wk6d postpartum as of today. I'm already 5 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight and it's all centered around that little annoying pouch hanging from my stomach.
However, before I found out I was pregnant, I was on Weight Watchers and had 15 more pounds left to reach my goal weight. So I'm still aiming to lose those 15 pounds plus the 5 pregnancy pounds for a total of 20 pounds.
I'm still waiting for my 6 week checkup and the OB to give me the go ahead to start exercising again. Until then, my only exercise is BFing!
What I really want to find are good exercises for toning stomach muscles that got stretched and flabby from pregnancy...any ideas moms?

Pilates is awesome for this! Pop in a dvd for 20 minutes 3-4 times a week and you will notice a difference in 3 weeks if you do the workouts to the best of your ability. I did this prior to pregnacncy and my body was amazing from it.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I gained about 60, but had gained weight after my wedding!!! I am now 2w3d and afraid to step on the scale. I find it so hard to do things with him here... including food shopping and exercise and preparing healthy meals.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I gained @ 40 lbs from the pregnancy and 15 from quitting smoking before that. I would be happy to lose all 40 from the pregnancy and 5 from the quitting smoking - for a total of 45 lbs. As of right now (tomorrow DD will be 5 months) I have lost 30. That is the same amount I had lost at my 6w PP check up. My weight loss has totally stalled.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I can't get past my size 10s!! I am stuck
I gained over 60 pounds while pregnant. The first 40 came off quick...the rest is lingering.
I know its what I eat. I know nursing makes me thirsty and I mistake it for hunger.
We walk with the stroller a lot.
I went to a Zumba class this morning...then took the baby for a bike ride with DH.
I just have to make a full on lifestyle change. snacking on fruits and veggies...moving.

I love using an exercise ball to do crunches on. It is so much better than just doing them on the floor. Plus you can do reverse crunches for that lovely thing I like to call "back fat."

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I'll join in!!!! I gained almost 40lbs, and at 5 weeks I was down 15lbs. I just brought my summer clothes out of storage and my maternity clothes is PACKED AWAY!
I bought a few things (luckily I don't work, so I only bought a few stuff FOR NOW!)
I love my summer clothes and got soooooooooooo sad, cause I can't fit into anything! My belly is not bad at all, I seem to have put on the weight everywhere though. My Boobs are HUGE because of BF, so I can't even wear my tops.
I have be doing some exercises, but not as much cardio as I would like, but I hope to get into a routine real SOON!!!

You can do anything you did pre-preggo in moderation. I plan on working out through my next pregnancy so I don't feel so out of shape, health wise.

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I gained 30lbs with DS and lost it all and some more appx 2 months PP since I was BF, but lo and behold...once I stopped BF, thats it, 8 lbs creeped up in a matter of a week and I can't lose it! I've been walking a lot but I know what I need is a lot of cardio. If I lost 25 lbs. it would be perfect!

Ladies please remember ~
I took you 9 months to gain the weight... so don't be discouraged if it takes that long to lose it!!!
You will all get where you want to be!!!

Re: New moms & weight loss motivation
I gained 35 pounds during pregnancy, had DS 15 weeks ago. Lost 25 pounds pretty easily but the last 10 just stubbornly stuck on there..
I started taking walks, and also bouncing with DS on pilates ball, dieting, nothing worked. Then someone told me to drink green tea, that it speeds up your metabolism.
I started drinking a cup of green tea every night about two weeks ago, and those last 10 pounds are now gone!!!! Could be a coincidence- but this is the only change I made, so who knows.
We won't discuss the loose skin around my midsection though....not sure if that is from the c-section- or if it will ever go away. I am not a "crunches" type of girl!!

I like "Pilates complete for Weightloss" because there are lots of quick routines to choose from.
I also like Winsor Pilates using the sculpting circle. The sculpting circle would help me with proper technique.
I would switch back and forth so I would not get bored. I think I got the Winsor one in a package on the Winsor website, and the Pilates complete from target, but I think Amazon has it.
I hope I can start back up on Monday!!
