new update from park: Just got back from ped...still wheezing
even with meds since Thursday.
Had to give him albuterol at park today, he could not catch his breath.
So...ped referred us to pulmonary specialist.
I have an air purifier, but its a hand me down...I want to make sure I have a great one? can you recommend one?
cheapest place you found allergy bedding?
does anyone have asthma dyson? is this just a gimmick? I can't pull up my rugs since I rent...but can get a better vaccuum.
I have a new humidifer, it works really well. I have taken away all stuffed animals.
anything else? tia!

actually if you need the dust covers fast - bed bath and beyond has pretty good prices with the coupon
also when you put on the covers - duct tape the seals - this makes sure no air gets in
also all sheats washed on hot water
also don't make the bed -traps humidity in the bed to increase dust mites
be careful with humidity - too much also creates dust mites
we just have the dyson animal - it seems to work for keeping my allergies down - but not sure if it is that or other things i have done

I'm an asthmatic and have allergies as well. The pulmonologist will be able to go over all the ways to change teh house enviromentally etc.
As for airfilters and vacuums the only way for them to actually trap the mites etc is if they have HEPA filters...they are a bit on teh pricey side by the way.
ALso, when I was little I wasn't allowed many stuffed animals....they are a breeding ground for mites and dust....limit them to 1 or two and vacuum them regualrly with the HEPA vac......

If your current one has a hepa filter I would stick with it for now. Wait until your pulmonologist visit. I remember when I was little my pulmonologist explaining to my mom everythign she needed to do to help decrease dust and mites etc.........

Remove all extra fabrics
Bed skirt/ruffles or wash as often as the sheets
Do the same with curtains/valances or remove completely.
We are going to remove DS' carpet and put laminate flooring.
We only have 3 stuffed animals and DS does not play with them. If he can live without any of them it's actually the best.
Dyson vaccums have a great rep
Dust often.
Wash sheets as PP said.
Do you have a pediatric pulmonologist already?

okay...just bought the asthma dyson...the guy said try it after vaccuuming with my old one and watch what old one misses.
pricing our sharper image purifiers now...knocking on neighbors doors tomorrow in search of 20% off coupons.
bought the dust mite pillow cases.
have to figure out what bed this child is sleeping in...
I feel soooo unsafe having him in his room.
the monitor cord, purifier cord, and humidifer...he's going to be plugging them in and out, pouring our humidifier...ughh.
going to check fm now.

I think my sister's ENT tested my niece for everything, foods, enviornmental allergins (this is allergy season), animal fur, etc.

They might have tested this already. When our allergiest tested DD they did a whole panel of tests and she is actually allgeric to cow dander. If he wasn't tested then I would have him tested. They can also test for different types of dust mites so that might help you.
I'm sorry you guys have to go through this.
I *think* I have a BBB coupon and if I do it's all yours.
I don't know if this is extreme or not, but what about having your apartment professional steam cleaned and cleaning the carpets?

I just checked out Consumers Report on the Air Purifier and they recommend:
Best room air purifiers:
Whirlpool Whispure AP45030S $230
Kenmore Progressive 83202 $270
Both combine fine performance with quieter operation, especially when set on low. The Hunter Permalife 30547 costs a bit less in annual costs but was noisier when run on high. Though the Friedrich C-90B and Kenmore (Sears) K6 85264 were better at dust removal on their high settings, they emitted moderate amounts of ozone in our tests, so we don't suggest you buy them.
My parents had the SI one and were very dissatisfied.

I have BBB/LNT coupons also. I get them mailed to me often. Also they have them almost every week in the sunday newspaper.
Have you checked their website to see if there is a printable coupon?

wow! just went to town with my dyson asthma! it picked up so much(and I had just done it earlier in the day)
normally, air is dusty afterwards...not with this thing.
I think I will keep it.
I had my carpets cleaned in late august actually...but that is a great idea to keep up on it.
furniture is slip covered, so I will just wash more often.

I'm sorry you are dealing with all this, I'm an astrhamamatic and its a pain!
Wash all your bedding/linens in hot water.
Reduce any/all linens in his bedroom. No dust ruffles, drapes, carpet etc.
Having an air purifier is very helpful.
The meds 3x's a day should help. Your dr. probably recomended 2-3x's a day to prevent symptoms. Its more about prevention then treatment.

Do NOT get the Sharper Image air purifier. My allergist says it's crap. it doesn't circulate the air. The HEPA filter is the best.
Definitely get the plastic covers and wash all bedding, curtains, all soft materials once per week in hot water.
Sorry Josh isn't feeling well!
